Spent the day in Austin where I had a very good lesson in some country dancing, not my favorite and largely because I have done enough of it.

Then we went for dim sum. I passed on the chicken feet, but did taste some of the tripe (bland). I more than ate my fill from among the rest of the goodies.

This is sad news!
http://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Breaking-News-Theater-Hotspot-Angus-McIndoe-to-Close-20160102

I knew it was struggling but am sad to hear it.  I've know Angus since the early 90s when he was the host at Joe Allen.  I was nervous for him when he made the move, and frankly I was loyal to Joe Allen, who has also weathered many tough times.  I did go to Angus's a bit - we had one of our Haines His Way gatherings there, and the cast party of The Brain was there, too.  He was always very good to me and very accommodating.  It was he who made sure I always had table twenty-three at Joe Allen and he who referred to it as "my table."  And when I asked if we could shoot the first Outside the Box episode there, he gladly said yes and didn't charge.

I futzed and finessed quite a bit, adding a few things and subtracting a few.  Then I wrote one new page and went and had a bacon and cheese omelet, a small fries and a bagel.  Then I picked up one package, which contained the fixed version of Welcome to My World, which looks really good, then I came home.  I've now written a total of five pages, will take a brief break, and then write at least five to ten more.  I do know I'll be finishing the chapter I'm on, which is quite long.

I am enjoying the updates on the novel-in-progress. BK, are you finding comedy different to write from writing a mystery or western? Does it take any different approach?

Getting ready to watch JRand's least favorite Doris Day movie, "Tunnel of Love." It's the last film in this series. I hope I survive it.

Just had to share. :)

I am.  I like the show even though it's not very different from so many other sci-fi...and not so sci-fi...cop procedural shows.

Seventeen years ago on the day of the Alamo Bowl, I came to San Antonio on a job interview that was rather surreal. I was sick with a fever and remember reading a good chunk of John Irving's Son of a Circus on the plane ride in. The circus part seemed somewhat apt.

I couldn't breathe through my nose, so I really couldn't taste the food at the interview lunch, which was at a busy River Walk place, overrun in a sea of purple and yellow, the main colors of the two teams that year. I had never been to San Antonio before and had no clue about the River Walk or anything other than the Alamo. There were three women interviewing me, one of whom had the great idea that I should review the meal as part of the working interview. There was another option, which I chose instead. I don't remember what that was, but I do remember writing an article on the fly about a Portuguese soup that features plenty of garlic and is used to fight whatever ails you. I was desperate for a bowl of that.

I had to suffer through a bad Italian meal that night before I was dropped off at a noisy airport hotel in which I could not get the thermostat set higher as I had developed the chills. I couldn't sleep much that night and just sort of slunk off the next morning thinking that the whole trip had been a mistake.

I somehow got the job and have been in San Antonio ever since.
