Have fun on Broadway DR VIXMOM!!!!

DR LAURA.....the sign for the "F" word and the sign for "Football" are very similar, so some hearing people get their teams mixed up when signing, much to the amusement of deaf people.....

That's not how she signed it.

She was probably using ASL - American Sign Language - instead of SE - Signed English.

ASL has its own vocabulary and syntax.  It was created by the Deaf community so that they could converse without the hearing world being able to easily eavesdrop on their conversations.

I should learn it. Then I could follow the stories better.

Interesting.  Seems then, to me, that it should have been kept as a private language and that all public signing should be the same.

I slept well until around 2:30AM, at which time I was wide awake and remained so most of the night. I did nod ocasionally, and my last dream was some weird hodgepodge of a group of friends waiting for a movie revival house to open and The Island of Dr Moreau with Bela Lugosi.

My daughter's plans for the day include several hours in the bathtub reading her Kindle -- her favorite way to spend a day off.

It's kind of a battle ground DR JANE.  A lot of hearing people have also learned ASL, and it is taught now instead of SE....but most people, deaf and hearing, use a combination of the two.

I learned SE and have only learned a bit of ASL, since I no longer work with deaf people everyday....but it is seen as archaic....

DR LAURA there are many good books for learning ASL.....using them in combination with some YouTube videos can give you a good base.  ASL uses facial expressions and STRONG hand and finger movements and has its own syntax usually putting the verb or adjective/adverb before the sentence subject:  i.e. "Go....I...." as opposed to "I go...."

Every time I hear or read about the FOX live broadcast of GREASE, I think about what DR FJL wrote a few weeks ago about the show:

Ancient Grease!

HA!

Every time I hear or read about the FOX live broadcast of GREASE, I think about what DR FJL wrote a few weeks ago about the show:

Ancient Grease!

HA!

I loved the irreverent, raunchy, vulgar, original off-Broadway productio of Grease before the film tamed it, laundered it, sanitized it, and destroyed it. It was a bawdy reversal of the popular teen movies in which the bad boy reforms and a paean to the high school greasers and losers of shop class and beauty school that the upwardly mobile students looked down on. If I thought Fox were doing the original, I might be very happy, but I intensely dislike the current high school version with dumbed down, sanitized lyrics and the movie songs.

I believe Fox is doing the movie version of the show.  Pity.

I haven't seen a Broadway show since HAMILTON, but that cost enough for four shows.

Which version does the published vocal score represent?

Not only are they doing the movie version, there's at least one new song by the guys who wrote Next to Normal.  Barry Pearl and Didi Conn are making cameo appearances.  If you've seen the photos you know they're copying the movie.  I'm attending a dress rehearsal.

The published vocal score and Samuel French script are a cleaned up version of the original show, with laundered lyrics so that high schools can perform it.  Tams-Witmark did the same with the original rental materials for Kiss Me, Kate.
