And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to dear reader Ben, who, it would appear, seems like he isn't returning, even though we miss him and wish he would, and also dear lurker Iris.

He might surprise us and stop in for his birthday wishes.

I don't know. I haven't really been watching last update was someone else.  They are broadcasting from right outside the Tyson Events Center along I-29.  There's a hotel there and the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel too.  That's a good thing because there are very few restaurants open. They'll be able to eat at the Hard Rock

There was a bird on my feeder (gave in and put the feeder back up with blizzard was forecast) but no feed in the feeder (think the deer ate it all last night) so I decided to go fill it.  The drift in my driveway is knee deep now and we're no where near the end of the storm.   I'm guessing I won't get out until late Wednesday or Thursday.  They aren't plowing many of the streets as the wind just fills them in again.

I also poured a bunch of feed under the bush where a lot of birds seem to be living.  they could get to that food without having to get into the wind and snow

I know that will attract animals really close to the house, but I don't care when the weather is this bad.  They can't get to any food.

Its not that cold out. It's 31 degrees. Of course there's a windchill, but it isn't really that bad out there temp wise

TOD:  when I was a kid, my father was on the road two nights a week. To stretch her dinner budget, Mom would make us kids strawberry crepes for dinner. I loved those thin, eggy crepes. I later found out my sister Linda hated that meal.

Favorite dessert: yes. Rhubarb squares, cherry pie, homemade pop tarts (more like what I came to know as empanadas), doughnuts, the occasional cake and always cookies.

My mom wasn't that good at dessert.  She loves angel food cake so she made those fairly often.  She does make a fabulous angel food cake with a creamy marshmallow frosting

And a great big thank you to all of you for all the wonderful birthday wishes yesterday.  You made my day very special.

I just wish I could have done a birthday photo for you.  I am very limited when using my Nook.

That's mom's roast beef and rice. She used to add dried onions and accent (msg). I don't add that and it still tastes very good

Our grandmothers' cooking --

That IS a good idea, as an addendum to this TOD or perhaps another one.

I didn't have a grandmother.

I'm up - have been up since nine-thirty thanks to the noisiest construction crew in history - not only that, they're now taking up all the parking spaces in the neighborhood and THAT we're going to have a conversation about.

My paternal grandmother wasn't much of a cook. I only remember her making ham

There used to be rhubarb growing near our garden when we lived in the country.....and my mother would make some rhubarb pies now and then, which I really liked.

Then one day I saw two of our dogs lift their legs on the rhubarb plants.....and I discouraged those pies after that.....

I'm not sure I would have thought of that.

I don't remember my maternal grandmother cooking much.  She was about 80 years old when I was born.  I remember my grandpa cooking, but mostly poached eggs and melba toast.....OH.....he made dutch lettuce with vegetables from his garden.

I started putting it there when the Cooper's Hawk was killing the birds and small mammals that were out in the open

Well, she doesn't like to cook, so sometimes she has patience with it and it's great and sometimes she doesn't so it's not as great.....
