Last night, we had a goodly crowd at the Cathedral for our program of the organ and choral music of Charles Marie Widor (who wrote that famous toccata that seems to be known as THE organ piece). The choral music was all for choir with TWO organs, so that limits the number of places that the music can be performed. The Cathedral was a magnificent setting. But since it seats 3,000, you need to have a lot of folks to make it look even partly full.

Today is the first day I have had completely off in over a month.

I am catching up on laundry and dishes. Also walking and playing with the dog, and preparing music for various performances and rehearsals tomorrow.

This past week I had to finalize all my interviews and editing of articles for the winter issue of the MN American Choral Directors Association newsletter. Glad to have that out of the way!

As did I. Modern sit coms (with a few exceptions) don't have a patch on entertainment of old.

Just for the differing opinion on Bridge of Spies - I thought all of it was terrific - certainly in my top five of the year, and I found nothing wrong with its structure other than it doesn't really conform to screenwriting 101, a good thing, in my opinion.

I thought the 2nd half was a bit slow and lacked tension.  But, as I said, overall we enjoyed it.

Got blurb one from Richard Sherman.  I'll put it in the notes, but it's great.

And he absolutely loved the book and said he laughed out loud from page one right through to the end.

Obviously it hadn't taken me long to type "yes, truly" that my session would have timed out, plus the message shows up immediately after I click on post.

The Appalachian Carols work is finished, so tomorrow I can photocopy the edited score and mail it on Monday. The fee will cover most of the Ohio tax bill. Tomorrow I will go back to the Jerome Moross score.

For me there was nothing slow and the tension was tense, but that's what makes horse racing and I truly appreciate any film or script that isn't slavishly emulating the stupidity of Robert McKee and Syd Field, two jerks who have done more harm to moviemaking than just about anyone.

Perhaps your new Chorus will perform them?

I hate it when the only channel worth watching is PBS and all they're showing is the kitsch-y reruns of the dreadful Lawrence Welk Show. You need to be in the mood for really bad camp or drunk on your ass to sit through it.
