Greetings again, from back home.

Without my car.

They gave me a ride home, and it's turned into one of those days where you feel you're really being taken for a ride.  I presumably need two new tires, rear brake service, air filter, and something else.  I'll pick the car up this evening.  Ah, the joys of car ownership.

DR Jrand65, you probably told us this in previous discussions, but if your playhouse relies solely on volunteer work from musicians as well as cast and crew, then I understand the challenge.  Among the several local theaters in this area, one has maintained that position through all the decades they've been around.  The other non-union ones of similar size and activity do pay, and I hate to say it but those houses are where all the good musical action is.

It just happens that the first show I decided to become involved in after moving here was for the aforementioned theater, and the task was hardly simple.  I played a run of COMPANY, solo, without so much as a bass player or drummer at my side.  That was a good 25 years ago and their productions back then were, well, amateurville.  But it was great experience for me and I can toot my horn enough to say the piano playing was noticed.  Someone told me they've come around to paying their music directors a reasonable fee, but they still don't pay other musicians.  They have a bass player and drummer who have volunteered there for several years, so as long as those two hang in, everyone's happy.  But they aren't that good, and they generally don't attract other players.

There's always a place to make a buck, and like someone said above, for some it's their main source of income.  I absolutely do my share of volunteer work, but there are many musicians who just won't.

Does GROUNDHOG DAY count as time travel for the TOD?

Interesting question.  If it does count then it goes to the top of my list.

We watched BACHELOR MOTHER last night.  Stars Ginger Rogers and David Niven,

I'd never seen it before.  Cute.

They remade it as BUNDLE OF JOY during the 1950s with Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher.

I remember seeing it in a theater.  Not cute.

I love the original and hate the remake.

TOD:

One of my favorite writers, J.B. Priestley, was fascinating with time travel and fluidity of time. He wrote about it in non-fiction works, including Man and Time, as well as in a number of plays, my favorites of which are:

Time and the Conways
An Inspector Calls
Dangerous Corner

Others:
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court
A Christmas Carol
Looking Backward
A Wrinkle in Time

DR Elmore,

In regards to your comment on Easter yesterday,
Easter is not a Holiday, it is a HOLYDAY!

Many non Christians believe it is celebrated as a Holiday, probably due to the sad commercialism of the media.

In my opinion it is one of the most Sacred of all of the Christian Holydays and is a great source of Hope for all those who believe!!!

I don't mean to sound preachy i am simply explaining the difference between Holidays and Holydays in the Christian religions.

Easter is a "holy day" primarily in the variety of "Holy Days of obligation" within the Catholic church.  Other Christian denominations do not distinguish holy days from holidays, semantically.

It is inarguably a "holy" day within Christianity; however, Easter is most definitely listed among "holidays" in the United States.

Etymologically, "holiday" is another spelling for "holy day"...but its usage to denote celebrations of days "other than" religious ones makes it a generic term that I'm sure some churches avoid when referencing the true days of religious observation.  Other holidays associated with Easter are Good Friday and Easter Monday.  In the South when I was a child, school would be closed on one or the other of those days each year.

The one and only time I watched " Bundle of Joy" I quickly realized it was a remake of one of my favorite films.  Then slowly I watched an actress I had always liked completely ruin it.  Yes, it took two to do so but I didn't know much about Fisher beyond his voice.

You are welcome to your opinion, but w hat do you think holiday's etymology is?
http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=holiday

Holiday, Holy Day, it's still my least favorite holiday in the Christian calendar, and I have little use for practicing religions, even if one of my best friends is a priest. I think one's deals with whatever creator you choose to believe in is a personal, not institutional, matter.

Monday morning greetings!  I've been to our primary care physician for a routine check-up, mostly for prescription refills.  I have gained weight and lost height  >:(

I know the feeling, DR Ginny.

A few years ago I found that either I'd been wrong for YEARS about my height, or I'd lost some.  Of course I'd gained weight, too, but that's something we can usually deal with.  The height thing actually bothered me more.

So, I've been telling myself that the old one was simply a mistake all these years.  Yep. that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I'll be eating biscuits and gravy for a long time. Plus steel-cut oatmeal and yogurt.

Good thing I already had my yearly check-up and blood tests.
