In 1971-72, I crashed and burned as a college instructor because I was too immature and unprepared for an academic career. I was embarrassed at the time, but I have come to realize it was one of the best things to happen to me or i would not have had the life I did. The only positive side of that disastrous year were the friends I made and the scene designer and his wife who made me their best friend that year. They fed me, kept me company, offered advice, a guest room when I was too drunk to drive home, supported my projects, and when I had to pack up and leave, helped me get through it. I had known for several years that Sue, Charlie's wife, was fighting cancer. Today I received an invitation to her memorial service.
She was a lovely lady.
