Rolling blackout at 4 am prompted the sleep machine to cut out and wake me up. Glad I did because I had to reset the alarm clock.

Tree people part one have arrived and are waiting for tree people part two - then they'll begin and I asked them to please begin in the yard before doing anything to the front.

I wonder if they put the Hanson does Gershwin on CD - I bought all the Mercury CDs so I'll have to check.

Tree work continues - pool man will not be able to do anything today, that is clear so I'll ask if he can please come back tomorrow or Friday, otherwise the pool and hot tub won't be usable until NEXT Wednesday.

Got through the first three Hanson symphonies, all of which sound amazing under Mr. Hanson's direction and Mercury's amazing recordings.  Then we get to Symphony 4, 5, 6, and 7, all of which are the Gerard Schwartz recordings - and the sound is the kind I just don't respond to - distant and washy with none of the detail of the Mercury and so they are less compelling and certainly Mr. Hanson would have made a better interpreter but it's nice to have the complete symphonies to hear.  Mr. Hanson did record some of the later things for Mercury but in mono, which is why, I assume, those haven't been released on CD - too bad, as I'm sure they're quite good.

Wednesday afternoon greetings!

Where in tarnation IS everyone?

I took Richard this morning for his appointment with the ophthalmologist, who diagnosed a probable small stroke around the 4th cranial nerve and ordered a prism that will be applied to his right glasses lens to treat the double vision.  For the first time since my theatre days, I heard the word "Fresnel" in conversation.

We then went to lunch, did a small grocery shopping, and arrived home just before the heavens opened.  Richard is now sleeping off the drops that were put in his eyes.

Haven't seen a trace of the pool man, who may have just driven up, seen what's going on, and left, which means he won't be back for a week and I have to live with a filthy pool and spa for another week.

ChasSmith, did you know that Half Price Books now has an online store? It's HPB.com, I think.

It's also dangerous.

I did not, and thanks for the heads up.  I've only been in one of their stores, up around Carrollton.  We so need that kind of thing around here.

We watched an interesting, albeit disturbing, movie last night; EYE IN THE SKY with Helen Mirren and, in his final film, Alan Rickman.

Very well done.  It certainly makes you think.

We felt the same way.

Is this something to be concerned about?
