I am glad that Barbra Streisand will be in Las Vegas the day before we arrive.  Otherwise, I might do something really stupid with my credit card.

Today, I do my monthly film hosting at the Austin Public Library.

We're showing HIGH NOON, a movie that was saved in the editing room.

I'm glad it was saved :)

It holds up every well.  A true classic.

I agree.

I shall shortly be on my way to rehearse, and after that I shall sup.

We finished at 2:00; it was a 3-hour day.  tomorrow and Saturday are 5-hour days.

David Lutken - who's amazing on folk instruments guitar, dulcimer, mandolin, and banjo - joined us.  He's in Ring of Fire (I think) in Philadelphia, so he drove up for the day and he will join us on Monday morning for our run-through before the 2:00 reading.  I promised him I'd have some new things to throw at him then. He is such a fantastic talent.

Ivy and Colin are really adorable children and too smart for their own good.  I like the cast very much, and today we added their instruments.

Nice!

I went to the dentist on Tuesday. I had several old, gold crowns that needed replacing and have been trying to get that done one at a time. Last month's was no problem. But Tuesday's knocked me out. Plus, I couldn't open my mouth all the way. My jaw was not at all happy and really tensed up. I've never had that happen before. In any case, it's gradually improving and I'm almost back to eating normally.

This dentist gives you the old gold crowns. I've never heard of any of them doing that before. I shall take them to one of those WE BUY GOLD places. Maybe it'll buy lunch.

Coping vibes to DR John G, too.

As an only child, when my parents passed on it all fell on me. But I also didn't have to deal with siblings. My dad was sensible and we sat down ahead of time, reviewed all assets, and covered most of what needed to be covered. That helped tremendously.

I was offered it once and declined.

Good for your father.  Most parent's don't do this.

Wasn't he in the original Broadway cast of that show? I think I have him on the recording.

TOD:

Cole Porter. Well, he wrote a lot of classic songs about Paris.

TOD2:

In addition to the big boys mentioned, I'd add Saint-Saens, Satie and Offenbach.

Just finished watching the new Man from UNCLE movie. Good cast, especially Alicia Vikander and local boy Armie Hammer, but the script was horrible in that there were no characters and nothing to get emotionally involved in. Add to that listless direction (both script and direction courtesy of former Mr. Madonna, Guy Ritchie), and you have a beautiful looking film that tries to get by on nostalgia without heart.

Now watching something called Blondie of the Follies with Marion Davies and Robert Montgomery. Very old, somewhat creaky so far.

It was also food truck day. They let about a dozen trucks come up to the various places on campus.

I tried the local branch of the Cousins Maine Lobster truck. Had a Connecticut Lobster Roll (warm meat on a bun, butter, no mayo) and tater tots smothered in guacamole and pico de gallo.

Cousins was recently named in the top 10 of food trucks in the country. So, the line was almost an hour long. But it kept moving. That was a blessing, considering the heat and the lack of shade for the line.

After work it rained again, which is nice. I had the lawn mowed today, so this should be a help.

The folks who do the lawn are really nice. They live a street over and have promised to keep an eye on the house and yard while I'm in Louisville for a month.

I got a call from them this afternoon and the woman who handles the business for her husband said he told that he always loves to see J.B. through the back window. They offered to take care of the bird while I was gone, if I needed it. I thought that was nice, even though J.B. will be going with me.

Tango class tonight was really fun. Finally get the knack of a couple of the more complicated steps.
