Yes the First Nudie Musical was funny

, Bruce in particular and if you haven't seen it, you really should. Bruce brings the physicality I loved from actors like Peter Sellers, early Steve Martin and BK is much more winsome than Jerry Lewis (who I never quite understood was adored by the French).
Conceptually a bit like The Producers and that is a good thing

While it's still a bit raunchy for teens, my kid laughed a lot and let's face it, kids today are exposed to much WORSE stuff in crap like "Deadpool" than a silly harmless story like FNM.

I slept well for about 3 hours. When I awoke at 1:30, I began pondering a situation with the music, and I could not get back to sleep, Some time after 4:00, I fell back to sleep.

These past couple of weeks it's been one thing after another, and I do hope it all culminated with the absurdities of yesterday evening because I don't want to think of ways it can go on.

Soon after I arrived at the park for the final dress rehearsal of GYPSY, I got a call saying there was a power outage at the house and the generator was running things. Whatever happened, it affected at least a few blocks because a couple of the neighbors were without it, too. I think it was out for close to three hours.

And that outage wasn't weather-related at all, more like something blew at the big power station in town.

But at that exact point in time we were under a new threat of approaching thunderstorms, and at this outdoor venue literally everything is uncovered. Stage, musicians, sound board, everything. When rain comes, you scramble, and those with the larger instruments like drum sets and keyboards must keep tarps ready and waiting to cover everything.

So, what was supposed to have been a clear evening till at least midnight or something, well, best laid plans....

But we got set up and they had started doing mic checks when the circuit(s) blew and the venue had no power.

Ten minutes later it was back up, but there were further delays and we got started, like, an hour late.

And I guess it didn't matter that this was the final dress rehearsal, because somebody was calling out some absent person's lines.

And then the circuit(s) blew again, and another ten or fifteen minutes was lost. No one had any idea why this was happening (I guess they haven't had this problem in past shows, and this was a new thing).

But the mics weren't fully working. And the director decided to leave work lights on. So people on stage were going through the motions, but to call it a rehearsal at this point was absurd.

"Curtain" was supposed to have been 8 PM. At 10 PM we had just gotten through "All I Need is the Girl" in Act 1 when the word went out that the line of thunderstorms was now approaching our region and to start packing up because that's it for the night.

Today the rain is supposed to run its course through the morning and early afternoon hours, then be cleared out for the evening.

Of course there is always the threat of a "stray" shower.

So it looks like we have a show tonight, but we'll see what happens. Tomorrow doesn't look good at all for the evening.

I have no idea how well the show is going to run, though.

And I hate to put it this way, but I'm just glad it isn't "my" show. I'm responsible for being there and for protecting my stuff from ruin, and that's all the worry or concern I can take on. From my observation of the two final dress rehearsals, I don't believe this show is ready to meet its audience...to paraphrase whoever it is I'm paraphrasing.

I like this group. They do pretty good stuff --- indoors. But I'm unlikely to accept another outdoor gig here. There are two other outdoor venues where we at least have basic protection from whatever the elements wish to dish out, so even if a performance gets cancelled at five minutes to curtain, it's not a disaster. Here, there's nothing. If I were the proverbial piccolo player, that would be fine. But it's not fine, or fun, when you're dealing with several thousand bucks worth of heavy electronics.
