Last night's rehearsal was okay....and we're moving on.....No rehearsal tonight because of the Children's Theatre Workshop....a complete waste of our time and resources.

Friday morning greetings!  I slept until after 9 this morning and took Richard for his 10:30 chiropractor appointment.  Home for a while to putter and have lunch before my 2:30 mani/pedi appointment.

A Jack Randall Earles posting on Facebook today inadvertently put a poem in my head.   This is it:

When the Frost is on the Punkin
By James Whitcomb Riley

When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock,
And you hear the kyouck and gobble of the struttin’ turkey-cock,
And the clackin’ of the guineys, and the cluckin’ of the hens,
And the rooster’s hallylooyer as he tiptoes on the fence;

O, it’s then’s the times a feller is a-feelin’ at his best,
With the risin’ sun to greet him from a night of peaceful rest,
As he leaves the house, bareheaded, and goes out to feed the stock,
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock.

They’s something kindo’ harty-like about the atmusfere
When the heat of summer’s over and the coolin’ fall is here—
Of course we miss the flowers, and the blossums on the trees,
And the mumble of the hummin’-birds and buzzin’ of the bees;

But the air’s so appetizin’; and the landscape through the haze
Of a crisp and sunny morning of the airly autumn days
Is a pictur’ that no painter has the colorin’ to mock—
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock.

The husky, rusty russel of the tossels of the corn,
And the raspin’ of the tangled leaves, as golden as the morn;
The stubble in the furries—kindo’ lonesome-like, but still
A-preachin’ sermuns to us of the barns they growed to fill;

The strawstack in the medder, and the reaper in the shed;
The hosses in theyr stalls below—the clover over-head!—
O, it sets my hart a-clickin’ like the tickin’ of a clock,
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock!

Then your apples all is gethered, and the ones a feller keeps
Is poured around the celler-floor in red and yeller heaps;
And your cider-makin’ ’s over, and your wimmern-folks is through
With their mince and apple-butter, and theyr souse and saussage, too! ...

I don’t know how to tell it—but ef sich a thing could be
As the Angels wantin’ boardin’, and they’d call around on me—
I’d want to ’commodate ’em—all the whole-indurin’ flock—
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock!

I am home.

Bad day:
  1. the nurse couldn't find a vein and had to call in some help
  2. I lost the violin battle which displeases me greatly, especially since the argument for not hiring one does not hold water.
  3. I'm up to my ass i debt and have no idea when my colleague will finish Act One of Guys & Dolls so we can get paid.

We did accomplish much good work today, but I still worry about the musical side of things for Monday's reading.  That extra violin would have eased a lot of my anxiety.

Back from a lunch meeting at Du-Par's in Pasadena.  Had eggs benedict and hash browns - so not much more food for today but still under 1000 calories, especially after I jog in about an hour.

But "...my car is in the carport..." did not remind me of "Little Orphant Annie"!

Good afternoon. I debated taking my camera on my hike this morning. I usually don't in the summer, since there's not much to see; everything is in survival mode. So of course, I see not one, but TWO rattlesnakes today. That big storm that hit the mountain about ten days ago greened things up and brought critters out of hiding.

I have seen three rattlesnakes this week. That's more than I have seen on that mountain all season.

And now, I must be going.  I'm leaving work early so that I may see The Manhattan Transfer at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley!!  This will be the third (or maybe the fourth) time that I've seen them there, but it'll be the first time that I've seen them with their new bass singer, Trist Curless.  Tim Hauser, the original bass and founder of the group, died almost two years ago. :(

We took Rob and Mary Linda to dinner at the local Greek church.  It's their annual festival.  I bought carry-out pastries from Richard and DR Elmore's junior high Latin teacher.
