Nothing personal, JRand, but I hope whatever is happening in the heavens DOESN'T last until mid-September. Everything just feels off to me.

Good morning. I realized I forgot my camera about halfway to the trail. Saw a coyote and rattlesnake that would have been very photographable.

Spell check does not like "photographable."

Rodgers and Hart didn't have a problem with it.

Or at least with "unphotographable."

Spellcheck has a very limited vocabulary, IMHO.

Back -- from an absolutely lovely ZORBA.

It was great to see a lot of people, and the production was wonderful.  I'll return next week (their final weekend) to see it again and perhaps I can be a little bit critical of something or other then, but it's a remarkable achievement.

Music, too, and I'd been afraid it would leave much to be desired since there's no way you can put more than a small band in there.

They were intent upon a bouzouki, of course, and they got a player ..... who had to learn the entire show by ear.  He probably didn't play the book precisely as written, but the MD worked with him till he got what he wanted and it succeeded in providing the flavor.

Six players.  The MD played a harpsichord patch throughout (except soft piano for "Woman"), and a second keyboardist played the accordion book.  In addition to them and the bouzouki player, just percussion (drums plus xylo, bells, and timpani pad), a cellist, and flute/piccolo.  A violinist bailed on them at the last minute.

If they had added so much as one trumpet it would have crossed a line, because their intent was to render the score with a minimal group, reflecting the setting and feel of the small village.  It worked, and even conveyed the more powerful passages nicely.

I think I posted photographic evidence of the ACT ONE set design.  Well, they reused and adapted it, and if today's photographic evidence comes back from Kodak okay (ha ha ha, a little humor there) I'll post it later.

I'm going to review the details of the show this week before seeing it again next Friday or Saturday.  I wish I could share a piece of audio or video but these folks are very protective of that and it just ain't happening.

John G - Do you recall when the Stephen King-John Mellencamp GHOST BROTHERS... was going to be directed by Liv Ullmann?

Well, she has done two of the finest musicals in history. Well, OK, she's done two musicals. She would probably know more about musicals than the two writers did.

Oh man, this is already one HELL of an allergy day.

Without question, worst summer ever for this in my experience.

Yeah, it was pretty bad here, too. Hope you're not still sneezing.

Your looks are laughable.
Spell check don't like photographable.
Yet you're my favorite work of art.

In honor of the Rodgers Had Hart show tonight.

I have two free passes for movies at Regal, so it won't cost us anything, and neither of us gets anything at the concessions, either.

Nice. Hope the movie was fun.
