Well, I must be going.  Today will be a day of activities for me...well, two main activities.  First, I'm going to my parents' house for our weekly family meal and visit.  Today we're going to have mini pizzas!  After that, I'm going to a fellow Theater Artists Olympia board member's house for a TAO fund raising outdoor movie and barbecue!  The movie(s) will be projected on the side of his workshop building.

I'm bringing hot dogs and hot dog buns (the hot dogs and Polish dogs that Costco sells), and the cash box. ;) We had 14 or so people indicate on FB that they were going to go, and over 30 said that they were "interested."  If they all show up, that would REALLY be great!  But even if some of them show up, that'll help us, too.  It's not supposed to rain, so that's a plus.

What everyone else has said is all good.  Plus:

"I could care less" (instead of "I couldn't care less")
"Have a good one" (the new default, you rarely hear anything other than that all-encompassing "one" now)
"So..." (the new default vocal crutch start to every answer in interviews on NPR and the like)
"I mean..." (see "So...")
"Right.  So..."  (see "So...")
"Sure.  So..."  (see "So...")
"Like" (used/misused in so many ways you can't count 'em anymore)
Uptalk (statements ended with a question mark)

I miss the days when people used "um" as a crutch and you could criticize that as a singular weakness in their public speaking.  That seems to have actually dwindled, now that every sentence is padded out with "so", "like", and "I mean...".

But there's lots of JARGON, too, that's just brain-numbing, starting with BK's "on set".  My brain is too sore to up examples right now, but JARGON and BUZZWORDS of all kinds spread all too rapidly now.

A few more:

"brand" and "trending" -- (these two are business jargon run wild)
"based off" and "based out of" (instead of "based on" or "based in")
"This" and "+1" (referring to a post you agree with)
"pulled the trigger" (as in finally purchased something)

"loose" instead of "lose"
"your" meaning "you're"
"there, their, they're"  --  nothing new with these, but the daily train wrecks with them are getting worse and more numerous than ever.

"alot" instead of "a lot"
"terror attack" instead of "terrorist attack"
"buh buy" instead of "bye bye" or - hey, how about just "bye" or even "goodbye" for a change"  Why must upper level business executives revert to baby talk when ending a phone conversation?
"sosh" -- however you might spell it, in place of "social security number".  Yeah, I know you don't want to say the whole phrase hundreds of times a day, but why do I feel like "sosh" is all I've heard in the past few years?

"biopic" - which always looked to me like it would be pronounced to rhyme with "myopic".
"pigsty" - which always looked to me like it would be said like "pigmy", but I don't have a solution to this one.

More jargon:  "romcom"

Had perhaps the best stumble-through ever, then some of us went to Casa Vega.  Since I'd eaten earlier, I had an enchilada (cheese) and a taco (ordered beef but got chicken and I just ate it).  A la carte, so not really more than 400 calories.  Will jog soon.  Put about thirty more titles on Amazon.  Orders haven't been as many as yesterday but they are coming in steadily.

I finally hooked up the new printer to my mom's computer....and tried out the print a picture on a DVD feature.....it's a bit complicated, but it will get easier as time goes on....the picture is certainly NICER than the old LightScribe program that I had been using for years.....

I've begun a BBC series from the mid-1990s.  It's like a non-sitcom version of "Friends."  Andrew Lincoln, who's now on "The Walking Dead," seems to have the leading role.  Jason Hughes of "Midsomer Murders" plays another major role. They're all college acquaintances, and in the first episode four of them are applying for young barristers' positions with a law firm.  I'm enjoying it.

Uneventful evening included more dominoes and a nice walk. It's too humid here for my tastes. But it is nice with all that humidity to see those lightning bugs at night. Missed those. I think Texas is just too dry for them.

Didn't end up watching anything last night, so I just finished watching HARDCORE this evening.

Wow.  It's still hard to believe I didn't get to this in 1979.  It was released very early in the year, and I remember certain things I was involved in at the time, but nothing that would have superseded getting to most any movie I'd want to see.  But what an interesting film, and it certainly will bear repeated viewings.

As to L.A. location shots:  I am blown away to see that the Holiday Inn still had the original iconic sign standing on Highland Ave. any time near 1978 which is the latest this could have been shot.  And I loved the panned shot that holds for a moment on STAR WARS playing at the Chinese.  How great is that?  That would help in dating when that shot happened, but I guess it's still likely it was there through quite a bit of 1978.  There was another thing or two which escape me at the moment.

Let's see, what else?  It sounds like the "Cinema Motel" actually exists (or did) in the Valley, but I haven't checked it out yet.  I hardly ever got to know San Diego, but I did recognize a couple of the buildings there near the waterfront.  And it's always great to see S.F. in the 1970s, even though I never got up there as often as I wish I had.
