My leg is a mess, so I decided to stay in bed as long as possible. Then I got a phone call from my HMO about Monday's appointment with my physiatrist Dr Gotlin.

I may cancel a date tomorrow since walking is an ordeal. I'm good for short moments until my left leg decides it no longer wants any pressure put on it. This Oct. 13 hip injection cannot come soon enough.

I read VALLEY OF THE DOLLS when i was in high school, when it came out in paperback. Most entertaining.

I saw the movie a few years AFTER it came out on a double bill with BEYOND TVOD....but I bought the soundtrack for twenty five cents about a year before that.

I had the video and I have the Special Edition DVD that contains some interviews and some original screen tests (including Barbara Parkins' test for Neely, the part she really wanted). Sharon Tate is so beautiful, and her line readings in her tests are much better than what she did in the movie - I think it was a case of her director giving her line readings for the actual movie, because he didn't trust her....

I have seen the Barbara Parkins and Patty Duke appearances at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco....I think Patty's is included on the Criterion DVD....

Most entertaining as MR BK writes in the notes.

Almost all of the lines are classic, but among my favorite are:

"I'm not the butler, Neely." [Martin Milner as Mel]
"You're not the breadwinner either!"

"My God - she's got on her costume for the second act!"
"So - I'll do the second act first!"

"I'll heat up the lasagna."

And so many others!! There is a rumor that DR CP's pal Harlan Ellison had a part in the writing the script, but took his name off the final film....and in the script, Neely appears on "What's My Line" instead of at the Grammy Awards.....
