I have had such an adventure.....nothing like DR JOHNG's adventure in Greece, DR VIXMOM's trip to the Macy's LaZBoy Stores, or even DR JEANNE's trip to buy enchiladas.....but an adventure none the less.
I took my computer to the shop last Wednesday, when it stopped recognizing the DVD/CD drive. The man I talked to didn't seem to have any idea what it might be. But before I left (oh I had to go back home to get the power cord....they have always used one they had there....but this new part time man didn't seem to know that), we turned it on, and the disk drive was showing....
No call on Thursday. On Friday he called and said they were trying a couple of things and did I ever use Microsoft Works, they were going to have to delete it....I said no....
Saturday morning he called again....he was not sure what to do but that I would hear from someone. On Saturday afternoon a lady called and said they were doing some things, and that I would hear on Monday. The work would be $85.
TODAY, the first guy called back and started in on this and that....he said he was planning on doing a reset. I asked him if that would delete all my programs....he said no....I said hmmmmm.....okay.....then I heard a voice in the background and then he said...."oh, yes it will...."
WELL, friends at HHW. I must tell you, I am not a very nice person when I am angry. It takes a LOT to make me angry - but once I am there is no going back.
That was it for me - I told him what I thought of him and his company and his computer prowess....that I wanted my computer fixed and ready today - and I did NOT want to have to reload all my programs......there was clicking and clacking and I was put on speaker phone (which was probably unnecessary, they could probably hear me from my house).
Then I was put on hold....the OWNER of the company came on and said he was sorry....I had been misinformed, but I could come and pick up my computer if I wanted to. I said I would, immediately.....
I tried to stay calm while I was there....and said I depended on THEM because they were supposed to know how to do things.... If the drive was bad, the computer was less than a year old which means HP should fix it. Of course that fix would probably mean a WIPE of all my programs.
I put $85 down on the table....he said, let's make it $50....but I paid him the quoted price....they did do SOME work, although they never FIXED the problem.
Why is it so hard?
SOOOOOOOOOOOO.....now I have my computer back, but I do not have a DVD/CD/RW drive. I think I will buy an external one.
