I started the day finishing Jane Smiley's Moo and now I'm dealing with Hillbilly Elegy. What a heart-warming start to the day!

Missing my baby girl

The period between Thanksgiving and Jan. 2 is a real round of family melancholy. You can always adopt me, DR vixmom.  I will never move to Florida!

I need to get my ingredients together in a bit for the Greek salad I'm taking to dinner.

I'm only reading it on the bus.  i figure I will finish it around March 2017.

Dinner with friends last night was wonderful. The company was great, the food divine. I had roast chicken with haricot verts, a salad with avocado and a host of fresh vegetables, an enormous cheese plate instead of dessert and a few appetizers that we all shared.

I must go to market and think about what to take to the dinner. A 12-pack of Vernor's would be ideal, but it would never get out of the apartment.

I bought a turkey breast and a pumpkin pie so we can have our own "leftovers " tomorrow and over the weekend  my brother and his wife and her family don't believe in pumpkin pie so there will be cherry and apple pie and chocolate pudding

BK, I really wanted to see Queen of Katwe. I don't think it ever played here, not that I would know anymore. So, please let us know what you think.

Is this some cult they belong to that they don't believe in pumpkin pie? How do their tinfoil hats fit?

Another reason to adopt me!

The only holiday dessert I never could stand was mince pie.  My grandmother and Aunt Dorothy both made fantastic fruitcake.

We have pumpkin and apple pie here today.

I never think of fruitcake.  I LOVE fruitcake.  I'm terrible at shopping for them because I have no idea which one is going to be to my liking.  Probably most of them, but there are a few weird ones out there, and I've wound up with a couple of them over the years.

And I always loved mince pie, even as a kid.  What I wonder is whether we ever had a "real" mincemeat pie.  I'd like to try one now to see what I think of it.  But a regular "mince" pie is fine, too.  That was one I'd get at House of Pies now and then.

I have a great fruitcake recipe from the New York Times about 1975.  It is deeeeelicious!

Just returned from a Thanksgiving visit with Mom.  I took her a piece of pumpkin pie that will probably still be in her fridge when we visit her for her birthday on Sunday.
