And my long-standing predictions about the new production of Merrily at the Annenberg are already proving true - the Sondheim freaks are posting that it's the BEST, it's BRILLIANT, it WORKS, they WEPT - I want to vomit on the ground from these people. And they of course are saying "this needs to be on B'way! And of course someone like Ken Davenport will probably bring it, as he did with this director's Spring Awakening - and we know how that worked out, not that he cares - not his dough. I especially liked the comment about the BRILLIANT lighting, with lights swinging to and fro and back and forth, and around and around - I am so tired of moving lights that are actually USED as moving lights. I think lighting today, as with sound today, and sets today, is just pathetic compared to the true artists of old. And wait till the LA critics (and I'm guessing the lead critic of the Times) wet themselves to say this is the production that makes the show work. I will be hugely surprised if it doesn't garner across the board raves.
