Picked up a couple of packages. Richard Sherman will be here any minute to rehearse us singing Two Roads for next week. Then I have to just rest, I think. Listening to a Menotti triple bill - historic recordings of The Consul, The Medium, and The Telephone.
I love
The Telephone. "Hello, hello, oh, Margaret, it's you; I am so glad you called . . ." one of the funniest arias ever written, and that "Black Swan" duet from
The Medium, is also cherce. The original lead in
The Medium, a singer named Marie Powers, appears briefly in Capote's novella, "Breakfast At Tiffany's." She's the opera sdinger in the neighborhood who roller skates.
