By paying somewhat beyond what Medicare covers, I think they can correct my distance vision and my astigmatism. I will still need reading glasses, but will probably be able to get by with OTC rather than prescription ones.

My big question is: will anyone recognize me without my glasses?

DR Ginny, my eye surgeries were a year earlier than I expected, too. I went in for a preliminary consultation with the surgeon and he wanted to go ahead. At UCLA they plan three months in advance, so if you miss the window you can be stuck for a bit.

As for people recognizing you without glasses, you'll probably be advised to wear sunglasses without fail, as the surgery leaves your eyes sensitive to light. Whether they recognize you or not, you'll look cool.

I came late to the Beatles. In high school, my friend Ethelinn/Lulu (isn't she in KRITZER TIME as Lolo?) was screaming her head off over them, but I've never liked rock. It was only years later when I heard orchestral versions that I realized how lovely the music is.

Yes, DR Jeanne, sunglasses are a must for me. Mom has macular degeneration and wearing sunglasses is one if the measures advised to reduce the risk. At least I might be able to use OTC sunglasses instead of the pricey prescription ones I've worn since college.
