January 5 sounds like a very eventful day for many DRs.  Might be pretty quiet here in HHW...

Lost a coworker over night to cervical cancer. She had four children and fought hard for the last 18 months.

Not in a happy mood.

I'm up way too early to make chocolate donut bread pudding to take to work.

I have never had that.  It sounds good.

Jane, the preliminary forecast for Dec. 23 is a high of 56 and a low of 44.

Colder than I would like at night, but not terrible if it stays dry.  Thanks for the report.

DR Jane re: your goodreads account and meeting your goal

Even though I have met my goal for this year I am sort of cheating a bit (I really want to beat the amount of books I read last year).  I am going to read some books that are under or around 300 pages.  I am going to read some novellas. And I am going to read some short stories.

I have already done this.  I have been reading my current book several days already  :o

Wednesday morning greetings!  Routine cardiology check-up for me today, followed by grocery shopping.  I'd rather stay in and finish tomorrow's book group book, The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende.

Are you enjoying the book?

Yes, DR Jane, very much.  I'd rather be reading it, though, without all the distractions of the holidays, graduation, my eye surgery, and Mom's finances.

ASK BK

I may have missed it and was going to ask when you first mentioned Villa-Lobos, but have you heard Magdalena: a Musical Adventure? (Musical adaptation and lyrics by Wright and Forrest)

There was a studio recording with Judy Kaye, George Rose & Jerry Hadley

I listened to it last night  - haven't heard it since it came out - the music is great but it's just too florid and the lyrics... well.  If you read the reviews on Amazon it's amazing how many accuse Villa-Lobos' only attempt at a musical as something he should never have attempted.  What's wrong with this picture?  First correct answer gets a pat on the back.

Thanks.  Keith's aunt highly recommended this to me.  I just moved it from from wish list and checked it out.  I'll read it next if nothing else comes in from the library.

ASK BK #2

Why do you write the word as "Eyetalian" and not "Italian" when you have food from that culture?

Why not - it's a haineshisway.com kind of thing.

ASK BK #3

When you have readings of new plays/musicals that you have written, prior to production, do do a video or audio recording of it to help you with the audience reaction? Or do you take notes?

I do neither of those things.  I listen, make mental notes, I don't encourage anyone in attendance to give me their thoughts, BUT I tell them what I thought about certain things and we discuss those specific things.  Then I write down notes, but mostly I just know.

Vibes and xylophones to JohnG (and elmore to get better - one word: Sambucol - the box with thirty little white pills - they are a miracle).

I have never tried Sambucol.  I hadn't tried Mucinex either until the doctor said to use it.  I think it has helped.  I know how to battle normal bronchitis but this viral one is a whole new ballgame.  One minute it is like a normal cough that mucinex helps and then it is regular bronchitis that needs a strong cough medicine.  I think I am winning the game and hope no one else gets it.  I hear bad coughs are going around.

Healthy vibes to everyone!!!

I just got realistic and changed by Goodreads book challenge from 140 books, which should have been easy, to 115.  I find it surprising and funny I am reading so little.

Thanks Jane and Tom for the feel better vibes from last night.  I woke up a couple of times during the night, but it's all still lingering a bit.
