I'm home from the surprise birthday lunch.  Margo was quite surprised!  It was fun and there was much chatting and eating.

The restaurant was on their brunch menu and had the Banging Breakfast Burrito: natural Irish style pork sausage banger, scrambled eggs, tomato, roasted red pepper, pepper jack cheese, chipotle sour cream, herb tortilla, home fries.  It was all very good. :)

After the lunch, I went to the mall and walked around for a while.  Talk about crowded, but I lucked out and got a parking space fairly quickly.  I went to the Verizon store and at first was told that it would be a 20-25 minute wait.  I said that I just had a question.  I'd heard that because I work for the Timberland Library (specifically, not just any library), I could get a discount on my bill.  The woman said yes!  And she was able to help me right away.  I had to show either a work badge or a pay stub, and I was able to bring up my pay stub on my phone because I keep the e-mailed copies in my work e-mail, which I can access from anywhere.  It turns out that Timberland employees get an 18% discount from Verizon!  Why didn't they tell us about this at work?  I found out from a fellow employee who just happened to mention it during lunch time.  No one else at the time knew about it.  They will now!

Then, I just walked around the mall for a bit, then came home...which is where I am now.

I planned my day around watching the skating program DR KevinH recommended last night that was to include the Four Phantoms.  There was not nearly enough of them and entirely too much of a woman named Romina Arena.

I just finished watching this (with some fast-forwarding).  At one point, they announced "another song from Home Alone," and she sang "O Holy Night."  Really?  That's from Home Alone??

I have to agree, DR Ginny!

I had never heard of her and can live out my life never hearing her again.

They could have taken some Hollywood holiday guidance from our very own BK...

Nope. Diana Mayo, Virginia's sister.

Just ushered the first half of the Symphony's Holiday Pops concert. Almost sold out. Fun. I liked The Little Bolero Boy, a mash-up of Ravel's Bolero and The Little Drummer Boy.

That mashup is on the Cincinnati Pops' "Chritsmastime is Here" CD.  I like it, too.

Oh, good, I'll have to look for it.

Have fun reversing time this afternoon MR BK - perhaps this "director" has found the key to making the show "work...."

They all think they can.

You have hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head, proverbially.  This director, especially, who is the current flavor in LA and who has a playground now at the Annenberg (a lovely seven hundred seat space), and I'm sure we'll have many more productions with his "vision."  I'll talk about the show and the production in the notes, but for something they had to spend three or four million dollars on, the sheer cockiness of these people is breathtaking, because I don't think there's a one of them whose assumption was they a) didn't "fix" the show, and b) that it would go directly to Broadway.  That's what happened with this guy's production of Spring Awakening - all the rage in LA, and a total money loser (I mean every cent) on Broadway.

If you like a production where the lights are the major player in the show, this one's for you.

Sadly the version on YouTube of the Little Bolero Boy, from Oral Roberts University, is not very well performed.

Starting to watch one of my Christmas favorites, The Bishop's Wife. I think it's all my brain is up to tonight.

The Cincinnati Pops, under the late, great Maestro Kunzel is superb.  I love their 2 Christmas CDs.

I've been baking gingerbread cut-outs and watching THE SOUND OF MUSIC and am feeling quite Christmasy tonight.

Great news on the discount, George.

Thanks, John!  It really helps because after I got my smart phone, my phone bill doubled from what I was paying before.

Just read most of the reviews for this production of Merrily.  Most favorable, with a couple of decidedly non-favorable.  People for whom this show is very personal (for whatever reasons, and I have mine for why it resonates so much for them), will love it in ANY production and think the latest is the greatest or the one that has solved a show that will never be solved.  And most, of course, are written by bloggers and therefore are meaningless in the scheme of things.

Kool and the Gang played at the USAA holiday party last night, and it was a load of fun. I think they've been given a bum rap over the years for being a disco band, when funk is a better descriptor.

They had a great horn section including the original saxophonist and two trumpeters. Kool was playing bass, and they tore through their hits, including, of course, "Celebrate," "Ladies Night," "Joanna" and "Jungle Boogie."
