My Dad did that when I was a kid . Came right through the living room ceiling in our first house (from which we moved when I was 9)

That house had been built new for my parents in 1957 and sold in 1966 and to my knowledge it changed hands at last once more before this owner took possession.

The patch on the ceiling was clearly visible where my dad had come through , more than 20 years earlier. I pointed it out and asked if there had been a water leak
