What with this week's overwhelming events surrounding Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, did anyone post this HBO clip here?  If so, please excuse the brain fart, but here it is, the recent documentary on them that's to air in early 2017.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1EnDqhFU6I&feature=youtu.be

A friend of mine pointed out what an incredible "Grey Gardens" feel permeates this particular clip.

If it was I missed it. Thank you.

DR JohnG, thanks for the "Asheville" post.  They're good, but I think it lacked the yearning and tug the song has sd s solo.  Perhaps that's not going to happen out of context?
Well, I don't think the group has the depth to carry the emotions of the song, especially those of someone who waited for a loved one through a war. Still, the harmonies were nice.

We are home and all went well.  I was not heavily sedated, but am a little wobbly from lack of caffeine.  My vision is  all screwy, because the eye that was operated on is still dilated and it's difficult to wear my glasses for the other eye.  Today might be an audiobook day...

I love The Sabre Dance......which I always use if I need "that kind" of music in a show.

Twice when I directed THE HOLIDAY SURVIVAL GAME SHOW at the Phoenix theatre, we used the sabre dance  during the "contests":  A Christmas decorating contest (the actors wore felt tree costumes and the contestants put ornaments on them.....and The Drag Race....the actors came out in their underwear, and the contestants dressed them in female attire from shopping carts.....

I also remember it from ONE TWO THREE which I saw on the ABC Sunday Night Movie....and laughed so hard from beginning to end.....

Put on your pants, Spartacus!

You're not gonna believe it --- one of 'em was red and one of 'em was green!

To take a phrase from DR Elmore... I slept poorly last night.  I had dreams of falling asleep while playing a show, I had a dream of being in an earthquake in a high rise building and wondering how I was going to get to my dogs.   It was a brutal night.

You can hear the flexatone clearly in most recordings of the piano concerto - it's great.

I occasionally go read reviews on Google as I'm listening to a piece and I hate when they go into what the programmatic aspects are, you know, this represents the invasion of tis place and the Cossacks - I don't want to know any of it, I want the music to just be and it let my mind conjure up the rest, but noooooo.  Unless it's The Moldau or something.

Jane, what part of Portugal? It's one of my favorite countries.

We will be taking a cruise from Rome to Lisbon.  We haven't planned our pre & post trips yet.  We plan to take day trips from Lisbon and train to Porto.  Do you have any suggestions?

Just listened to On Your Feet, the Gloria Estefan musical. It's not bad. It is cliched in a comfortable way. I expect local productions aplenty when the rights are available. What I don't like is how they truncated a couple of the better known tunes. Everlasting Love barely gets a chorus even though the live crowd on the recording is practically begging for more.

Now it's time for Preludes, the Rachmaninov musical.
