Picked up some packages.  That's about it.  Oh, had a chopped Eyetalian salad and a bagel for my meal o' the day.  The wacky Jon Voight walked by my table and waved and asked how I was doing.  Funny stuff.

Here I said don't rain on my parade and then it got rained on.  Oh, well.  There's good in the world, there's positivity in the world.  That's what we must remember.  Here's to 2017.

And Norman Dello Joio is cheering me up immensely right now - more brilliantly brilliant music from this person who is rising in my opinion with every piece I reacquaint myself.  For me, has surpassed Menotti, Barber, Harris, all of 'em.  Only Robert Ward, maybe Copland, and maybe one or two others are higher.

Well, I'm off now.  I'm going to have dinner with my friend Margo, then we're going to see "Passengers."  It hasn't gotten great reviews, but I love the sci-fi special effects, so we'll see how I feel about it.

Until later!

It is interesting to me that Mr. Dello Joio never wrote any symphonies.

Media check:

I've been watching a lot of MCCALLUM lately. I had a bit of the bug that's going around last weekend and watched quite a bit of A PLACE TO CALL HOME. I needed a break from it. I watched MCCALLUM when it first aired in the 1990s, but can't say I recall much of it. I like the show and wish there were more seasons. It's on Acorn TV.

DR Ginny, glad to hear your first surgery went well. During the month between my two eye surgeries I couldn't see well. I couldn't drive and had trouble reading. There was just too much of a difference between my eyes. You don't have long to wait for the second surgery. Your eyes may be able to make the adjustment better than mine did, too.

Yes, DR Jeanne, I have some challenges.  Because my right eye is now corrected for distance, they removed that lens from my glasses.  I'm seeing distance pretty well, but my depth perception isn't great and reading is uncomfortable.  Don't plan on driving this next week, but I discovered this afternoon that I can knit so I should be able to do some audio reading.

Back from a lazy afternoon that included a stop at a new New York-style diner. Had a really good Reuben. Want to go back and try the stuffed cabbage rolls.

Then saw La La Land, which isn't perfect by a mile, but there are some beautiful elements to it. What intrigued me the most is how much like Woody Allen's Cafe Society it was.

That was followed by a Cajun dinner with Jim Cullum's jazz band playing in the background. What a delight the music was -- and the food was just as good. I had pecan-crusted skate.
