THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL

Well, you've read the notes, then notes had both light and the end of a tunnel, and now it is time for you to post until the light cows come home.

TOD:  Theatre history books?  I'd say a real favorite because I refer to it all the time is the late Gerald Bordman's book American Musical Theater:  A Chronicle, which chronicles all musicals that opened on Broadway over all the years.   The rundown of the reviews isn't always accurate but it's always really good for basic plot descriptions and his having noticed trends in theater.

And the Foster Hirsch book on the musicals of Harold Prince, which covered a significant era in musicals by focusing on Mr. Prince but seemed to be setting the scene for what was going on in theater at the time.

For gossipy theater history:

Does "Not Since Carrie" by Ken Mandelbaum, or "The Season" by William Goldman,  count as theater history?

Likewise, the Martin Gottfried book about Bob Fosse was a fascinating, fun gossipy read.

For film history:  the various compilations of Pauline Kael's reviews were a real favorite source for a long time.

These days, I tend to go to Wikipedia for that type of information, though I know Wikipedia is not 100% reliable, and take the information with that in mind.

TOD:

I read a lot of show biz biographies, but I don't really have a favorite.

I watched the 1951 SHOW BOAT last night.  It's still one of my favorite movie musicals.

We have a gathering later today. I am making hummus, chips, guacamole, cookies, and lemon muffins.

I had many dreams, most of which I no longer remember.  In the last one, one of Broadway's - and a lot of pops concerts as well - worst conductors was showing off as a water skier.  I have no idea whas this dream was about.
