Thursday morning greetings!  I've been to the dentist for an uneventful checkup and cleaning.  Richard has received a call that my car is ready, so we'll go pick it up later.

Go to the movies, John G.

Find me the time, Ron.

TOD:

Rhapsody in Blue

Moonlight Sonata, in part due to fond memories of being "Lucy" in an all-male "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown"

Ditto and Ditto!  But not a ditto to playing "Lucy" in an all-male "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown."

I did play Charlie Brown in a community theater production about 15 years ago, after the first time I lost weight.  I lost about 120 pounds then...then gained back most (but not all) of it.

Last night I accompanied a friend to see M. Night Shyamalan's Split.  I hadn't seen a film of his in a theater since Signs and The Sixth Sense, and I hadn't even been to the local Bijou in months, so it was nice to get back out for a movie.

The movie was good, and suspenseful, until just as things were beginning to come to a head near the end when he did something that I know "works" for a lot of people, but just doesn't for me, because in this case (again, for me), it breaks a certain ground rule.  It wasn't his customary "twist", and indeed there is no twist, which is nice.  There are also zero --count 'em-- jump scares, which I have to give as a compliment.

Regardless of my li'l complaint, it's one of his better films and the presence of Betty Buckley throughout is wonderful.  I also enjoyed a delightful repast of chicken fingers and fries, and I vow to get back to the movies now and then.  That absence was too long.

Thanks for the report!  I really want to see this, although I'll admit it's because Betty Buckley is in it. ;D

Status report:

Errands run, recording made, mail brought in (nothing exciting).

I have one (1) free hour, and then I must prepare to leave for my evening of movie fun.

I forgot to mention this yesterday, but on the recording of Meredith Willson conducting arrangements of The Music Man score, I was very pleasantly surprised to hear otherwise-unrecorded bits of the "76 Trombones" dance segment (just a little of this one) and a good chunk of the "Marian the Librarian" dance -- a little re-orchestrated, but sounding wonderful.  I grew to like the "Marian" dance a lot when working on it last year.

Well, it's finally up!  The Timberland Regional Library (where I work) is celebrating Black History Month.  On this page are ways that they're celebrating the history and achievements of African Americans, and one of them is this:

"TRL staff have shared their voices in a mixed version of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous “I have a dream” speech."

I'm one of the readers!  It's the full 10-minute speech, which I had never heard nor read in its entirety until now. :)

I'm up, I'm up - have been up since eight-thirty but just stayed in bed and did stuff on the iPad and went over my opening patter for tonight.  About seven hours of sleep.

Speaking of weight loss!

What "diet" or program are the following men using?

Sean Murray (of "NCIS")
Lucas Black (of "NCIS: New Orleans")
Scott Bakula (of "NICE: New Orleans")
Jeffrey Dean Morgan (of "The Walking Dead")

All these guys are looking way too lean these days.  Murray looks nearly anemic, but Black and Bakula look amazing.

I'm not bothering with pounds lost, but inches. I have lost one, two or three more would be nice.

Two job offers came in today. One from Susanna Moross Tarjan to do a complete orchestra score for Gentlemen, Be Seated! and one for a couple of orchestrations for the Boston Gay Men's Chorus 35th anniversary concert.

Topic of the Day (addendum):  Stephen Sondheim's "The Enclave" - incidental music, as recorded on Unsung Sondheim. I used this link because you can listen to musical samples.

Going by inches would never work for me.  I would want to keep loosing them.
