I may not watch the Oscars this year.....I am not saying that I necessarily disagree with what they are saying....but there are better places to say it.  It eventually becomes overkill.....very very quickly.....

Jane Fonda - unexpected voice of reason....

Nice clip.

I have yet to see LA LA LAND, but I am surprised that there is so many negative comments about it, yet it appears to be the clear favorite.

Why do people "hate" it?

I didn't hate it, but it's nowhere near as good as it should have been.

That is why I don't want it to win.  There were better films this year.

One of the big problems with the movie seemed to be that the creators don't know why the better musicals work as a whole. The opening number was wonderful while it lasted, but neither of the leads was in it. They were each in their separate cars stuck in the traffic, seemingly above or removed from the dancers and singers. So when the song ended, we were left with nothing that connected it to the story. Who were they people singing? We don't know and we weren't given the chance to care. Also, do only young, attractive, talented people get stuck in L.A. traffic?

Well, god damn!  I just got a jury summons for March 16, right in the middle of "The New Yorkers."  I've asked my doctor to write me a deferment.  Getting to jury duty when you're fit is a bit of an ordeal, but in my current shape it's terrifying: subways at rush hour, trying to navigate crowds and stairs, walking several blocks to the court house.  Shoot me.

Is it also not possible to defer it yourself, claiming employment or other needs, and then you have to comply next time you're called?

But if the doctor will do it, then hell yes.

I got out of jury duty once, based on work commitments.  But the next time I was called I was retired and had to make myself available.

I climbed the ladder, found the tax info from last year that I needed, and my work is finished.  I'm thinking about dinner.

Had a fun visit with cousins and brother - didn't eat anything.  Came home and made the other eight ounces of bow tie pasta with some red sauce and eating that now.

Twice I have had notes from doctors.  The second note pretty much removed me from the list.  I hope I don't get called in Washington have have to begin again with notes.

I enjoyed the opening number and thought it was rather clever, though I agree about the disconnected issue.

George - great to hear the show went well.

Thanks, Fred!  We have 20 people tonight...several actors and assorted theater types, and they're loving it! :D

I certainly enjoyed it, but I don't want either of the lead actors to win.  I thought that Meryl Streep's performance was much more worthy of the Golden Globe and the role is more Oscar-worthy.  I haven't seen any of the other female leads, so I don't otherwise have a preference.

It's intermission and it's going really well.  The audience is definitely enjoying it.  This is the most vocal audience that we've had. :)

Finished with my viewing.  The not enough sleep caught up with me at around three - I feel trashed - and I will absolutely Ny-Quil and there will be no hammering and yammering in the morning.
