Hmmm, re: SWW's question about being asked to shop for relatives - the answer is yes.

Mostly I like it though.  I bought all the Christmas gifts for my sister's niece and nephew cause they have no stores up north.

I picked all my own holiday gifts and everyone is buying them off my mom.

I went with my uncle to buy some of his gifts.  And I got a gift for my aunt to give (although it's quite hard for her to shop a lot).

I'm sure when my aunt gives my mom the list for my uncle that I will have to go around town buying stuff to give from my sis.

Hmmm, tomorrow night is my dad's 60th birthday party.  Since his brother's family is driving from out of town, I'm hoping the snow that is forecast will not be too bad. :(

I wish to thank Pogue for bringing us all to London with him and the LW--vicariously, that is.

And catching up on Brando, I haven't been a huge fan, and I haven't seen lots of his major performances.  However Streetcar is one film I absolutely love, his performance in particular.

A guilty pleasure, I suppose, is the remake of The Island of Dr. Moreau, which we caught on cable a few months ago.  With Ron Perlman as the First Speaker, Fairuza Balk as Aisa, Val Kilmer as Montgomery, Brando has all he can do to out-ham the rest of the cast.  In particular, Kilmer seems to be in a contest with him for Quirkiest Performance from an Actor.  Brando camps it up delightfully, even in the death-of-Quilty-ripoff scene where he plays the piano for the attacking animals.

And then there was the Lucy episode in Hollywood when she had a cake for Ricky reading, "To My Darlin', Another Marlon".  "Marlon who?" asked Fred.  "Brando, of course," she replies.  "Oh.  I thought you meant Monroe."

Worst performance by Brando:

His date with Elaine Stritch.  But she had the last word, just like Christina Crawford.  ;D

My birthday wish for you includes the ability to track down a Bollywood epic that stars both Mr. Sunil Shetty AND Mr. John Abraham!

That wish has already come true DR Stuart!!! The movie came out this year and is called LAKEER!! I watch the musical scenes from it on a daily basis!! And it has my all time favorite Bollywood film soundtrack!

And, on a grumpier note, is there anyone else out there who gets asked to do the Christmas shopping for relatives who are "too busy"?

LOL! My mom did this year and last year. She asked me to shop for her gifts to Baby Taylor...which I did gladly! Of course I love to shop so it was fun for me!

In the CD:

RAY NOBLE and His Orchestra:  The Touch of Your Lips featuring Al Bowlly as vocalist.

A wonderful choice DR CP! Love Ray Noble and Al Bowlly...although I have yet to pick up any of their CDs...but one of these days I will.

80,000!

Der B and I just received an X-Mas card, including a recipe that applies to the occasion:

The Perfect Holiday Cocktail

1 Part Good Food
1 Part Good Friends
1 Part Holiday Cheer
1 Part YOU!!!
Combine and Shake Until Dizzy!

That pretty well sums things up!   ;D

The problems we're having with doing other people's shopping for them is that they either aren't really happy with what we find, and grouse later, or we call them to tell them what we've found and their response is "I've got to think about it," which means that what they want will be gone by the time they've decided.  It would be great if they'd trust our judgement, but they don't.

Phooey.  (That's Yeoohp, for those who like their words backwards.)

I had requested to eat at the Tibetan place downtown, but for some reason nobody wanted to go there! Well, we will go out partying at the bars downtown afterwards...should be fun!! Maybe I will run into that Brazilian dentist again?!

Things I am learning from Interrupted Journey on TCM.

There are NO fat opera singers.

All men who come to see the opera are straight and fall in love with the singers.

Eleanor Parker is beautiful - but is least sexy when she tries to be sexy.

Is it worth watching?  It just happened to be recording when I was checking the TIVO in our bedroom in the hopes it had recorded the Betty Hutton interview.  She is on my wish list in there.  I got three movies but not the interview.  Last night we watched ANNIE GET YOUR GUN.  I don't believe I had ever seen it, even when I was very young.

Yes, DRJANE, I would definitely recommend it, specifically for the music.  There are some nice opera performances, and Eleanor is indeed one of the overlooked screen beauties of the fifties...overlooked by some, that is.

And I will send you a tape of the interview if you like.

I know Andrew Prine's current wife Heather!  She was an Oxford, Ohio, bimbo who played Kim Macafee in 1969!

Gosh and years ago, when I was in high school, I met Andrew Pine at my neighbor's house on several occasions.  Small world isn’t it? ;D

Vixmom TIVO is a special service.

Panni, good I’m not too late to wish you brilliant and successful metting vibes!
I’m currently listening to the sounds of a wood floor being hammered in.

JRand that would be great thank you.  I guess TIVO didn’t record the interview since it wasn’t a movie.  I’ll send you my address.

Another milestone at HHW!

Have spent a quiet day with last night's recorded television series. Surprised and delighted to see that hunky Colby Donaldson guesting on JOEY last night. Sad to say, it was a one shot.

Mention of LUCKY ME earlier reminded me of the (mediocre) 1954 Doris Day musical by that name. Some references cite it as the first Cinemascope musical. (THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT III says the remake of ROSE MARIE was the first one. I suspect it was MGM's first but not the first in history.) Anyone know for sure?

How's this for some news:  According to Playbill.com, Nicole Kidman Withdraws from "Producers" Film!  A quote:  "Variety reports that Kidman's representatives said the actress felt she would not have enough time to rehearse the movie musical before she heads off to her next movie "Eucalyptus."

Do you think that they would consider Tony-winner-for-the-part Cady Huffman or would they try to get another "name?"

I am eating a bowl of menudo and learning about my new camera...now to see if I can make things work correctly!

If it works, you should see a shot of my bookcase (note Allison Haye's name in the poster on the wall!)
