People - I just got something in the mail I totally forgot I'd ordered - about five months ago - a huge Bernstein box of every single recording he did for Columbia in stereo - cast albums, classical, related albums - it's amazing.  So now I have my big 10-CD original jacket box of Bernstein conducts Bernstein - a fantastic set I've loved but no longer need - 10 CDs, beautiful sound, original jackets - first person who wants can have it for $25 plus six postage.

Already uploaded the soundtrack and cast album of West Side Story - sounds pretty great to me.  These are all brand new masters for everything with the most hz and bits you can have in CD quality.  The soundtrack, which I no longer have (for the long version with the overture and end titles) sounds the best it's ever sounded.  Looking forward to the cast album - I don't think these are remixed, but definitely remastered.  In this set is also the Bernstein Peter Pan, and the Harold Prince Candide, a two-CD set of Bernstein in Jazz that I can't wait to hear - twenty-five CDs in all in a big ol' box.  I'd say definitive.

Well, I had the Japanese CD of the soundtrack (as released originally) - that one was much sought after for the sound - well, it sounds like mono compared to this beautiful thing I'm listening to.

Did you know, for example, that a Costco pinwheel sandwich has only 122 calories?  Amazing.  I've had four so far and will have two more and I'll still be around 750 calories.

I had put that new Bernstein set in my "Saved for later" section on Amazon when I first heard about it a couple of weeks ago.  I was thinking about getting it, but now I think I have to.  Thanks for the review, BK.

And speaking of Bernstein, I had ordered (but haven't received yet) Some Other Time: A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein, by Nils Landgren and Janis Siegel (of The Manhattan Transfer).  I discovered this totally by accident when I found out about the new 25-disc Bernstein set.  Since this was less expensive, I decided to get it first.  And I love any Janis Siegel stuff!

The soundtrack of WSS has, for the first time, the intermission music.  I did find the former expanded soundtrack and compared it - no comparison - they've gotten rid of the veil of reverb (I'm fine with verb but not the wrong verb and not with it unnatural - the new one is perfect).  No comparison.  Next up, the OBC - I have the last newly mastered version from 1998 so am interested to hear what they've done.  The 25-CD set is just over a hundred bucks on Amazon right now - that's less than five dollars a CD.  Seriously.  And the book that comes with it is beautiful.  Perhaps an early candidate for the release of the year.

Dad had two incidents today involving the car. One, he was driving home and forgot everything. The other was after that. He left home without telling Mom and disappeared for an hour. Needless to say, she was upset.

OH NO!  Forgot everything as in what he was out for or where he was and how to get home?

They have the big party trays, but also smaller versions of six.

BK is selling his older 10-CD set that he no longer wants because he got this new 25-CD set, which is what he reviewed.  That is what I want to get from Amazon...the new 25-CD set, not the older 10-CD set.

The cast album of West Side Story - previous remastering was fine, but this is marginally better and cleaner, with more definition, to my ears anyway.  The Symphonic Dances from West Side Story sounds MUCH better in this new mix/mastering (mix isn't a big deal - just three channels originally).  But it sounds so beautiful - the previous version sounded great but this is something wholly other.

I will say, for the casual Bernstein person, the 10-CD set is incredible, original jackets, plus it has stuff that isn't in this new set - several classic mono recordings (those I kept in iTunes) including the original recording of The Age of Anxiety with Lukas Foss at the piano, which I MUCH prefer to the later stereo recording, in which the pianist convinced Bernstein to add to the final movement in ways that kind of wreck it.  So, there's that.

I am so, so very sorry John.  Has your mother hidden the car keys, and told you where they are in case she forgets?

Well, I must be off now.  I'm going to my parents' house because my mom is having some trouble with one of their TVs, so I'll have to figure it out.

Be back later.
