Even though it was standard practice to release dubbed versions of popular French films at the time of Umbrellas of Cherbourg (I saw both subtitled and dubbed versions of Sundays and Cybele, That Man from Rio, and Alphaville to name three) - but as far as I know at the time of release there was never a dubbed Umbrellas. But in the early 1980s I began to hear tell that there was, in fact, a dubbed version, perhaps made for TV or cable, but I could find no evidence for it until one night, either on ON TV or Z Channel or maybe even a regular channel like channel thirteen, I saw it - I don't remember if they used the Norman Gimbel lyrics or not, but I couldn't believe it, really, and only wish I'd recorded it on Betamax. And I've neither seen nor heard of it ever since.
