Had my chicken and Wacky Noodles - very filling.  Then sat on my couch like so much fish and finished documentaries on Rachmaninoff (pretentious, but the music was, of course, gorgeous), and then Stravinsky in Hollywood (kind of ineptly made but interesting surely).

The In Memorium segment was really sad because the list included so many people whose talents I grew up with: Martha Swope, Beth Howland, Alec McCowen, John McMartin, Marni Nixon, David Huddleston, George S. Irving and of course, Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds,

Trudging my way through the Stravinsky box - on about disc seven I think - the Columbia recordings sound amazing (the early mono stuff), while the handful of early RCAs don't sound nearly as good.

DR John, just curious.....would you be permitted to return to the studio with a different instructor?

Yes, but I won't. I will still work with the studio on other issues, but I'll dance elsewhere. They are still very good friends. And I understand their problems.

It is difficult to be in the middle of a disagreement.  I am glad your options have remained open.

I told my DR brother Kevin to watch A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN tonight as he had never seen it.  He is in for a real treat!!!  I think it is such a endearing and heartfelt movie!!!

This is one movie I mostly preferred to the novel.

I agree. I think Betty Smith was a better storyteller than she was a writer.

Thanks DR Jennifer.

We are hoping Keith has food poisoning.  He threw out the spinach he ate last night that I didn't have, just to be safe.  Since he wasn't feeling good all day we really don't believe it is the culprit.

First professional musical: either The Sound of Music or Camelot, national tour, Shubert Theatre, Cincinnati, 1962.

First book: can't remember; I was between 3 and 4.

Lucky you.  I was a slow learner in school, but then I didn't have much exposure to children's books, at least not that I can recall.

The Music Man.

That was mine, too, DR Jane!  At Detroit's Riviera Theatre with Forrest Tucker as Harold Hill.

I imagine he was good in the role.  I am pretty sure I saw the original cast in Los Angeles, but I could be wrong.

I remember I liked to read children's books about cats and dogs.  There are a couple of books I can still recall the stories but I have a clue what they were.  A teacher read Stuart Little to the class and then I read both Charlotte's Web and The Trumpet of the Swan on my own.  Those were the only true classics I read in elementary school.  I didn't even know about The Secret Garden until a new friend lent it to me over the summer before beginning high school.

I read a few Hardy Boy & Nancy Drew books, wasn't too keen on Nancy and I couldn't read a mystery without reading the ending first.  They were too suspenseful for me ;D

We just watched the pilot for THE MARVELOUS MRS MAISEL.   It was wonderful and we are excitec that Amazon has ordered 2 seasons.  I hope we don't have to wait too long to see the next episode.

After the Drama Desk Awards, I started I Am Not Your Negro. Sadly, it's all too contemporary.

One of our Kritzerland singers, a new to us gal and one Doug's been pushing, has just been too hard to communicate with and I sensed a bit of attitude from her e-mails - she just informed me she's not available for one rehearsal day and the stumble-through day - I informed her she was out.  Trying to replace her now.

Has anyone heard Stravinsky's opera The Rake's Progress?  Kind of delightful - in this box we get the original mono recording and the stereo redo.
