Our director Chase posted these two shots from the matinee today.

The projections were great. Some beautiful images of Scotland, especially, and I was quite taken with a B&W photo of Paris with the lower part of the Eiffel Tower in the background. It was so "perfect" that I wasn't sure if it was a composite or an actual straight-on photograph. Well done all around.

When I looked at the program I was thrilled to see the generous number of songs being presented. I didn't recall if DR Elmore had said that the instrumental ensemble would be only five players -- piano, bass, cello, woodwinds, and drums -- but they were wonderful and the arrangements were beautiful. The ensemble sounded like a chamber orchestra here, a full orchestra there, and I loved unique touches such as cello only (as a duet with vocalist) on "Before I Gaze at You Again", and Rob Berman joining at the piano for a four-hands "With a Little Bit of Luck". Some especially beautiful vocal arrangements included a male/male duet of "How to Handle a Woman" followed by a female/female duet of "I Loved You Once in Silence". Stunningly and almost hypnotically beautiful moments, these.

Did Rob write his own narration/commentary? Here's yet another thing he makes look so damned effortless. It was fascinating throughout, and there was generous audience reaction upon hearing various and sundry facts and revelations about the lives and careers of Messrs. Lerner and Loewe. The orchestrators received enthusiastic applause, and it was a beautiful concert all around.

DR ChasSmith, I'm glad the program went well and that you had a goof time. Yep, Rob wrote the narration, which I thought was quite wonderful, and the vocal arrangements. He also wrote the cello solo "Before I Gaze At You Again." We were happy to give it to him. How was the crowd?

I wonder how it compared to the other audiences at the other shows, but this crowd seemed totally into it and thoroughly appreciative.

As far as the house goes, it looked like there were just a few scattered empty seats at the start, but I was enjoying the concert too much to remember to check back on that.

I sat in he comfort if my recliner and ordered our meals, it gave us a 20 minute pickup time. Vixdad arrived there in 15 minutes and the food was ready, since we live right down the block he was back here about 7 minutes after he left

Sada Thompson is so wonderful in Our Town. I knew it back then. But now, seeing it from the perspective of a different generation, she's so real that she's heartbreaking.
