This might be a silly question, but what/where is this auto-correct function that some of you are using?

Is it a feature of this board (HHW) or of your own browser?  I'm looking through my account settings here and don't see anything.  If I did, I'd have mine turned off anyway, but I find no such thing.

So, wherever it resides... with all the silly mayhem it causes, why do you use it?  I've long been curious about this, but I so enjoy its entertaining results here that I hadn't thought about asking in a long while.

DR ChasSmith:  It's a function of my computer.  It doesn't matter what I'm typing or where I'm typing it.  It just kicks in.

I am extremely grateful I do not have it on my computer, though at least here it would be easier to see and catch the errors.  There simply isn't any logic or consistency to most of them.

Autocorrect is not on any of my desktop computers, but I had to turn it off on my devices (tablets, phone).  It was just too annoying.  It seemed like I was correcting the autocorrect "corrections" more than my own typos!

Interesting!  I don't recall having such a thing, or disabling it, on any computer of mine, and I can't even find a reference for one on this HP Windows laptop.  Maybe it's a feature that some manufacturers add, others don't.

RE: the Tonys I was super disappointed that Bette Midler did not perform. I read the reason (the producers of Hello Dolly wanted to perform at their own theatre because they thought it was dangerous) and wish that they would have just had Bette alone singing if they couldn't have the whole cast.

TOD: I really enjoyed Ben Platt's acceptance speech. And while I don't think the Dear Evan Hansen number worked that well out of context I have heard so many people say great things about the that I still want to see it.

I thought that Kevin Spacey was okay as host. The opening number was the best part. And when he came out with the House of Cards cast. But I didn't love his impersonations. Maybe if they had been theatre people that he was impersonating. But that just didn't work for me.

Only thing is, know it IS happening is a bit disturbing.

TOD - I always enjoy the Tonys, but last night's show wasn't the best.  Like DR Elmore, I wanted COME FROM AWAY to do better than it did.  The food-hawking bit was kind of lame, but it did give some visibility to several shows not otherwise featured.  It was a thrill to see our acquaintance Jared as Willie Wonka.  He documented the day in Facebook videos and it was fun to watch the process.

Does anyone know what Bette said that got bleeped?

From what I been reading elsewhere  Bette said "shit".

Is that all?    ::)

Here's her unexpurgated speech recorded by someone in the audience:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HATz7MokZ8M

Jump to about 3:34 and she says, "I want to say thank you to Campbell Young for their, the most beautiful hair on Broadway and I am not shitting you people."

Well, this is cool.  Here's Bette's acceptance speech when she got her special Tony Award.  It was presented to her by none other than Johnny Carson:

Well, I must be going.  Tonight is the volunteer appreciation dinner for the Washington Center for the Performing Arts!  Since I'm a volunteer there, I'm going!  They'll also announce their next season, so that's always the best part.  There will probably be some door prizes or raffle items, so I might also get something to take home. :)

Be back later!

DR Jane! Yes I have also had that problem with the delayed response while typing now and then!!!

Thanks for responding.  I believe that now & then is fairly common.

So far all seems well.  I hope I really fixed the problem.

I've been dealing with it for about a month and it had gotten so bad I would have to walk away from the computer while everything caught up.

Has anyone ever had a major problem with typing on their computer?  I am typing but the letters are coming up long after I have typed.  The computer also, I expect to due the lag, locks everything and I can't move the mouse or close anything.

That's happened to me before, but it's always only been a temporary situation.  If I waited or came back later, it was always fixed.

That was what Keith kept telling me until he saw how bad the problem really was.

I guess I shouldn't carp about Cynthia Nixon's speech - she was just quoting Lillian Hellman......

I guess I need to see some of her speech.  For me if I agree or not, if it is political I don't feel it belongs at award ceremonies.

A day of digital banking has passed. Some of it was very interesting. Some of it not so much.

Quoting Hellman is fine if the quote is from the play she won the award for ;D

Truth is truth.

But what is truth? Is truth unchanging law? We both have truths; are mine the same as yours?

Sometimes my keyboard doesn't put the letters I type on the screen....it's like some kind of code.

I have to shut down my computer and start again.
