Still got up to 75 degrees.

I was at my parents' house today.  We sat out back in their covered porch eating and chatting and playing cards.  It was really nice.  We got my dad his most favorite usual gift (we get it for him at every occasion):  a gift card for Barnes & Noble.  For my mom's birthday, we got her tickets (I'm going to take her) to see André Rieu in concert at the Tacoma Dome in October.  She loved it!

I often read the posts on the NYT. Some I strongly disagree with, and in a few cases I think the posters are real idiots. But why would anyone object to verse? If I saw something there that didn't appeal to me I'd just skip over it. Gawd! Aside from pure malice it's difficult for me to understand an objection.

Agreed!  I just don't get it, either. :-\

I am mostly sad that I will not be able to audition or be in LAUGHING STOCK which I have looked forward to since DR GEORGE posted about the production he was in.....I just do not think I will be strong enough to be onstage during the rehearsals that will begin at the end of July.....my chemo/radiation should end in August, but I don't want to be cast and then have to drop out.....

That's too bad, Jrand.  Hopefully, you'll at least get to see it.

This was my advice to summer interns.

Tune of (of course)  “Summer Nights”

Summer intern, in N-Y-C
Summer intern, listen to me
You won’t make money to burn
But you’ll find so much to learn

Summer day, earn what they pay
But enjoy your summer nights

(Well, oh, well, oh well, uh huh
Tell me more, tell me more
Heard there’s so much to see
Tell me more, tell me more
I hear Shakespeare is free)

Uh huh. Uh huh!
If your bosses buy a nice lunch
Be real grateful, thank them a bunch
If you’re offered any nice perk
Let it show in your hard work

Summer youth, don’t be uncouth
And don’t stay out late, those summer nights
Whoa, whoa, whoa

(Tell me more, tell me more!
Can I surf on the net?
Tell me more, tell me more!
Will that get them upset?)

Uh huh, Uh huh!
Summer clerk, you’re there to work
Still enjoy – those su-u-mmer nights!
(Tell me more, tell me more!)

What in the world would anyone think is wrong with this?  It's great, Fred!

I am ushering in a bit for a world premiere production of a show called Through the Wall. It's about the lives of Mexican migrants who have crossed the border into the U.S. It's all based on interviews from children as well as adults, kind of like what Anna Devere Smith does. I have a feeling it's going to be a very emotional afternoon.
Well, we had 8 ushers for about 45 guests at the show, which was incredibly moving. A Mexican artist had designed the stage, which featured a wall of latex skulls that she had painted and then illuminated with lights under each. Overhead were five hot air balloons made out of paper. On them were projected animated images of people walking to suggest their migration. Around the walls were Mexican-style batik banners. You could walk around before the show and examine the works up close.

But the best visual of all was this stunning coup de theatre at the end, after the actors had finished telling their stories of the anxiety they face living in a world without papers, the back wall (actually a garage door-type barrier) was raised, bringing the world outside right into the theater. Really effective.

That sounds really cool!  I definitely would've signed up for that if it came here.

Thanks DR JEANNE - yes I am doing well although I don't have all the strength in my stomach muscles to stand up from a sitting position or bending over....just takes a bit more time......

Years ago, when I'd had abdominal surgery, I found going down stairs and pressing down to make hamburger patties especially painful.

Continued vibes to you, DR JRand!

~~~Ditto!!~~~
Jane, your new car looks very nice. I hope it serves you well for many, many years.
Thank you.  Our lease is for three years with an option to purchase it at that time.
Last Wednesday, June 14th, was my car's 19th gotcha day anniversary!  I plan to keep it until it's completely dead. ;D
So, Richard and I are sitting in the family room watching an NCIS rerun and I'm casting on to knit a baby blanket for my cousin and his wife (due in December).  I'm at about stitch 126 of 132 and, from somewhere outside - KABLOOEY! - and our power went out.  Duke Energy says 1440 households are out and they estimate it'll be 1:45am before service resumes.  Might be an early night for us...
:o Oh, my goodness!  Hopefully, they come on sooner rather than later!
Thanks DR GINNY - you have described it exactly.
I have been lucky, after my surgeries I had Keith home to help me get out of bed and up from sitting.
Has anyone seen this BBC series "My Mother and Other Strangers" that's currently running on PBS?  Quite moving and nostalgic.
No but it looks good.  Thanks for mentioning it.
We usually purchase a car and keep it a long time.  We have never kept one this long, unless the fact Bryan still has the car we purchased in Connecticut counts.  He was 15 when we purchased it and now he is 40.  He is saving to buy a new car.
DR Jeanne you were correct that we would take a drive in the new car today.  Since we needed a destination we drove about 15 minutes, without traffic, to a restaurant we haven'the eaten at in a long while.  The Ceasar salad was excellent as was the rest of our dinner.  I had my dessert of their incredible bread pudding put straight into a take-out container.
On Friday, I recorded "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone," starring Vivien Leigh and Warren Beatty, on TCM.  I didn't remember why I wanted to record it, so I just started fast-forwarding through it and then I remembered...Lotte Lenya is in it.  I've never seen her in a movie.  Other than hearing her on recordings, I've only seen film clips of her singing songs in foreign languages.  And then I saw that Jean Marsh and Cleo Laine are in this, too.
Just finishing up the last of the mono Ravel.  If you have never heard anything but Bolero you really owe it to yourself to discover this music.  The Pavane for a Dead Princess is simply one of the most exquisitely and heartbreakingly pieces of music ever written.  The Valses Nobles and Sentimentales is brilliant, and you'll hear how it influenced Mr. Sondheim immediately.   The Mother Goose suite (Ma Mere l'Oye) is gorgeous.  These orchestrations, these tunes.
