The serviceman from the heating and cooling place is in the basement performing the annual maintenance on the furnace and a/c.  Lots of weird noises emanating from those regions.

I had to be up early because the appointment "window" started at 7:30.  He arrived at 8:00.

I'm just as glad to have it over with so I can get on with my day.  But it sure seems to be a Monday all around  ... for me and for everyone around me.

Hello from NYC!   I got here Saturday and was greeted with torrential rain.  Luckily, it stopped in time for the gathering of Streisand fans in Central Park.  It was the 50th anniversary of the "Happening" concert.   We took some photos and watched some of the concert on a portable DVD player.  Barbra actually posted some photos on Instagram and thanked us for commemorating the date.

On Saturday night I saw "The Government Inspector" with Michael Urie, Michael McGrath and Mary Testa.   It's an adaptation of an old Russian play.  It was really hilarious.

Keeping with the Russian theme, I saw "Anastasia" yesterday afternoon.  I really loved it.  I think DR Elmore's friend, Caroline O'Connor, should have been nominated for a Tony, if only for her facial expressions!

I also hope that by the time I get back we have a working elevator.

I hope so, too!

Tonight I'm seeing a reading of "The Chalk Garden" with Angela Lansbury.  It's a fundraiser for Hunter College.

Lovely pictures in the notes.....is the show about country western singers?

The show takes place near Nashville and is indeed about a country band and many other things - too many things right now.

I'm up, I'm up - maybe four hours of sleep.  Too many things in the old cranium and they all decided to make themselves known at the same time.  Hope I have a voice for this evening.

I didn't use the voice much yesterday and I'll rest it today, so hopefully it will be fine.  And hopefully we'll have a few last-minute reservations because we're lighter than usual - a nice house at sixty but I like seventy or eighty.

I know you'll all be happy and relieved to hear that the furnace and a/c cleaning/maintenance has been completed, and all is well.

I will say of what I've heard, the third, Eroica, is the best.  But what's amazing is the 1958 stereo - incredible.  They don't do this better today.

Beethoven fifth - famous, of course, especially the first movement.  And yet...

Trying is good, but no reason to force it or feel silly for not falling for those "secondary" ones.  Or even the fifth.

If I were packing some Beethoven for a desert island, I think I could grab Fidelio, the sixth and ninth symphonies, the piano concertos, the string quartets ... and call it a day without regret at not hearing the rest again.  Okay, maybe a few sonatas.  But those others are the cream of the crop for me.

Maybe I was unduly influenced by Fantasia as a kid, but the "Pastoral" remains the most beautiful for me.  The ninth goes above and beyond, but I remember it taking a few months of occasional listening many years ago for me to come to grips with the whole thing.

Vibes your voice is fine and you have a bigger house.

Had to put Beethoven aside for a bit.  Went immediately to a Rachmaninov second I'd never heard - excellent performance, one of three by Evgeny Svetlanov - didn't love the first one, but the second two are aces.

I am home from my meeting and the elevator is still out.  The crew did not arrive as promised and the super says they will be here tomorrow morning at 7:00.  We'll see.

It was a good meeting but I am happy to be in the AC.  And on to G&D.

I listened to the CD this morning. Really enjoyed it.
