On another such business trip to Chicago, we were all staying at the Congress (?) on Michigan Avenue, and they were beyond full.

I'd reserved a non-smoking room but the one they gave me was reeking as though a pack had just been smoked in there, and they insisted it was impossible to change rooms. I suffered through it that night, but oddly enough, when I came back into it the following afternoon it was like there had never been a puff taken there. Thank goodness, because they still couldn't change me.

But I love Chicago...

I got one of those produce boxes from a neighborhood center this morning. A ridiculous number of tomatoes and zucchini, and some cucumbers and other stuff. I have two loaves of zucchini bread in the oven, and I just roasted two pans of tomatoes to make into sauce. Gazpacho will also be on the menu this week.

Our SUV held a lot more gas than our new sedans does. After all our ideling yesterday going nowhere we had to fill up the gas tank.

Sigh, the slow traffic through the construction took longer than I expected. At least it is a pretty mountain road.

Anyway, I'd decided to put some of my clothes into a drawer, which I didn't always do but I wanted to this time.....and there was somebody else's socks and underwear. It took a moment for the meaning of this to sink in, and I then went to the bathroom to discover personal stuff all over the place. Ay yi yi...

Thank GAWD no one had been in there when I unlocked the door (with the old-fashioned key) and walked in. I quickly gathered my stuff and went back to the desk, gave them the key, and told them they'd just put me in an occupied room. They fixed it immediately, of course, and escorted me to a new room with a bellhop going in ahead of me to inspect it. But...wow.

Not the specifics, of course, whihc sound scary - but the atmosphere reminds me of a place called the Park Brompton Inn where we had stayed in Chicago back in the 1990s.

Larry - He passed away on June 24, 2014, three years ago today.
