Well, you've read the notes, the notes weren't, and now it is time for you to post until the matinee cows come home.

We had a suicide by cop on the interstate near Lacey on Saturday which closed all of I-5 southbound for most of the day.  That is down near George's neck of the woods.

I don't think I heard about it until long after it was over.

Yes.  I can't be at the rehearsal tomorrow morning, but I can be there tomorrow night, as well as this morning and Wednesday morning.

Well, I need to go to sleep.  I have to get up early for today's rehearsal, then I'll go to work after that.

Good night, Tom.

City Center and Joshie at 10.  I hope I can finish by 11 and get out of his hair.  He's up to his butt with work for the summer encores! series.

TOD:

I remember sitting in a comfortable bus in the ritzy part of Rio, when a commotion stir on the street outside. People started screaming. You could see a man running through the crowd followed by police. The police started shooting at him even though the street was crowded. Strange and scary, even from the relative safety of the bus.

At the last moment I decided to turn onto a roundabout to go back from where I came from because I forgot to pick up an item. As I was turning a car was heading straight for me going the wrong way on a one way road. He was being chased by a police car. I saw the terror in this guy's face. Both swerved at the last moment to miss me. About five minutes later according to the news report  latter that day they caught up to him and after a brief standoff he was shot dead at the shopping plaza I was originally headed for. I remember the police shooting at the car to stop it, but this was denied in the press. If I had turned a few second earlier I would have been hit headon.

T.O.D.

This is an easy one.

Back in the early 1990s, a few days after I'd sold my screenplay that became DILLINGER AND CAPONE, I was walking my dogs one night in the quiet, upscale community of Calabasas, CA, when a car passed me.

I heard a "pop," then something struck me on the forehead.  I felt my head.  There was blood.  I'd been shot.

Luckily, the guy was a bad shot, because if I'd been hit an inch lower, I'd have been blind in one eye (or worse).  As it was, the bullet just grazed me.

The cops were called.  Half a dozen black-and-whites were on the scene, and the "verdict" was that I was the victim of a gang initiation.  Lucky me!

I was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.  I was pronounced okay to go home, and that was that.

However, 2 days later, Army Archerd ran an item in his Variety column, humorously suggesting that I was shot by remnants of the Dillinger gang in revenge for my screenplay.

They say that any publicity is good publicity, but I don't think I'd really like to go through that experience again.

I've forgot to post this the other day. I use the Final Draft play/screenplay program and one of the features is that it will highlight all the dialogue of each character. You even get to chose which color, but I think yellow is the best. Many of the other color choices come out too dark and make it hard to read.

What is up with the celestial bodies, DR Jrand66?  Yesterday was quite the damned day for lots of people.

A friend of ours, I think in his early 50s, suffered a stroke yesterday.  Latest word this morning is that it was a "small" or "mini" one caused by getting zonked on the head by something.

A beloved century-old wooden carousel at the Rye Playland Amusement Park caught fire.  I can't tell you what a wonderful thing that is, and I hope I have learned correctly this morning that it was a roof/cupola fire with no real damage to the ride itself.  It's just one of those things -- to lose it would be disheartening for everyone.

And yet, my friend Nathan was able to fix whatever was wrong with my garage door opener, so that's a good thing!   :)

I think my only brush with scary police activity was in early 1981 when I'd moved to an apartment on Mentone in Palms (around the block from the Palms movie theater on Motor Ave. for those who know the area).  It was a nice apartment block of typical two-story 8- or 10-unit buildings, and I was on the upper floor.  Late one Sunday night when most everyone was asleep, I was awakened by a lot of noise and running around and the sounds and odor of something burning.  Everyone ran outside to find that the apartment below mine had been "firebombed" (or some such -- I never did find out exactly what was done to cause this) by someone, directed at the people living there.

The building wasn't exactly burning down or anything, and firemen were getting the fire put out, but the scary thing was that cops were there, too, and they were clearly in pursuit of someone.  Then there were a couple of gunshots, and I'd never been around anything like that.  I'd already gone downstairs, and because smoke was coming up into my place I didn't want to go right back up there, so a couple of neighbors and I ran back to where the laundry machines were, and we went in and sort of crouched down behind the machines as we heard gunshots.  It wasn't long before the commotion was over, but those were a truly scary few minutes.  I clearly remember thinking "this is real danger, you cannot let yourself get shot!"

So, that's the scary police part of the story.  My place had enough smoke damage that the company who managed a bunch of apartments in the neighborhood moved me down the block and across the street to a similar building that had a vacancy.  I had to take most of my clothes to a cleaners who did a beautiful job with them, and smoke had gotten into a couple of framed items on my wall and into a few books.  I can still detect the traces of smoke discoloration on a couple of the items I still have.  The most critical thing was my Rear Window lobby card with Hitch's autograph -- which fortunately is alive and well.

TOD:

A couple of months ago, I heard an explosion.  I looked out my door.  A SWAT team with a big armored vehicle was down on the corner at one of the drug houses in the neighborhood.

I didn't hear any shots.....but there were a lot of vehicles and a lot of running around.....
