My building management has no sense of humor.  The agent's reply to yesterday's email inquiry:
Is there an A J Clarke intern who can stop by 2-4 times a week, do my laundry, bring up packages, and carry garbage to the basement for me?
was this just now:
We do not provide services to do tenant's  laundry and carry their garbage.

I just sent her this message:
I guess my sarcasm eludes you.  If I have to hire someone to carry, tote, and launder, may I deduct it from my rent?

It obviously eluded me.  Really, why not get someone to do these things for you-at least the carry and tote part.

Well, for one thing, I cannot afford it. Next question?

LOL, I was responding in the same tone as you intended your original email to the building management.  I left off the question mark, should have put a wink there :)

TOD:
Not so much scary as disturbing in other ways.

Many years ago, in the 1970s, I was living in a small duplex at Venice beach, which is now part of Marina del Rey. I was housesitting my friends' dog, Happy. Happy and I were about to go for a walk and left via the kitchen door, which was on an alley. There was a large moving van parked on the other side of the alley and next to it stood a tall, nice-looking white male. He couldn't look more clean-cut if he tried. Blue eyes, and I think he even had on a powder blue cardigan.  He spoke to me, saying something like, "Taking the dog for a walk?" I said yes and on we went.

When Happy and I returned the moving van was gone and in its place were several police cars. I asked one of the officers what was going on. It seems that Mr Clean-cut with the Blue Eyes was part of a gang of thieves who had just robbed a number of houses. I was just talking to him! And the people he was stealing from had nothing.

Ron, are you excited about your move or too worn out at this point to know?

So far, so good with the Bruckner - finishing up the second symphony, which is beautiful.  I simply cannot imagine any competing set being as beautifully played, recorded, and mastered better than this one, but I suppose the telling will be in the tale, once I've heard the later EMI set.  That said, stereo in the 1960s is my favorite (one performance in this set is late 1950s).

I have trouble understanding how people can be so hard-hearted. I probably should have learned by now. It is the responsibility of building management to keep the premises in good working order and in accordance with the building codes. Since the elevator was "ticketed" one must assume that the management failed in their duties. Surely they know that not all of their tenants are Triathlon contenders and would have difficulty traipsing up and down the stairs. Even if not required to do so by law, I would have thought that common decency would have dictated some sort of "service" a couple times a week to aid those for whom this is a hardship. If they have interns it would be easy to them to assign those duties. It boggles my mind that they are so irresponsible.

The FBI raid at my former employers was quite exciting. A hoard of BIG men with guns and FBI vests telling us to move away from our desks with our hands up and not allowing us to touch anything.

Our purses had to be searched before we were allowed to take them

Larry, there must be organizations for seniors in your area. I wonder if one of them could help? Either to pressure the building management to do something or have some volunteers come around and help out.

Due to a singularly unimaginative developer, on the  west side of our town there are 24 streets named  West 1st  Street, West 2nd Street  etc right up to West 24th.... They run parallel to each other and the numbering system is the same on every block.

Hilarity ensues....

But even when street names are not AT ALL alike mail mishaps occur. When I lived on South Lee St in Alexandria, VA, I often received mail for the residents at the same number on South Fairfax St, which paralleled my street.

And the business at the same number on NORTH Lee St frequently gave their address without the North. I received mail for them almost daily. I mentioned this to them several times and their attitude was blasé beyond words. Does no one care any more?
