I'm happy you enjoyed Falsettos, DR JohnG. I will never like this show. Around 1981, when March of the Falsettos was produced off-Broadway, Mr Rich, who was a friend of William Finn, placed Finn up there with Sondheim as a writer. I remember leaving the theatre thinking, what a con job, and I've felt that way after seeing any of these Marvin musicals since. There was the Promenade Theatre production, which added the wonderful "I'm Breaking down," and then along came AIDS and the third show became AIDS For Dummies and killed off the sweet Whizzer, when so many other characters in the piece deserved death. People have lost hundreds of friends, colleagues, and acquaintances, and we get a sentimental piece of poor to mediocre lyrics to the message of "something bad is happening."
Yep. It sure did, but if I want to see an honest AIDS piece, there are far better.
