Just got my answers on "Dressing Smartly" so I can finish that.  I've almost finished "Suits Me To A T" and, beside the two numbers I haven't touched, all I have are the incidental cues.  I may be cutting it close, but I'll finish it on time.

I forgot that Joshie is in a band rehearsal for "The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin" today, so I will talk to him tomorrow.

Back from a very pleasant drive, a very pleasant Trader Joe's wrap eaten in the car, a very pleasant Barnes and Noble visit, a very pleasant couple of other errands, and a very pleasant stop at Stew Leonard's for some food for this evening.

As you might surmise, it's been a very pleasant day.  But do you know WHY it's been a very pleasant day at every step of the way?  Because I've been in very pleasant air conditioning the whole time - in the car, in the stores, back at home.

Getting out of the car at each stop was something else, though:  instant glasses steam-up.  And then it would instantly evaporate upon walking indoors.  I don't think I've experienced it quite that consistently before.  And the air.... my god.

But I also had an exceptionally very pleasant drive because I took along a cassette tape of a 2003 Met broadcast of The Rake's Progress.  I did that because I was so happy to find it this morning.  When we were talking about that some weeks back I went looking to see if I'd ever recorded one off the air, and I swear I combed every last inch of the place where the remaining tapes are stored...to no avail.  This morning I looked in there to see what else I might find, and there it was, right there in my line of sight.  WTF!  Oh well.  A happy discovery, and the piece is so damned beautiful.

My question for ASK BK Day?

Do you like the movie version of THE RED SHOES?  What do you think of the stage version?

Had my first Freshly meal - I don't think I cooked it enough - I'd read that two minutes was the cook time, which is what I did - but then I read the packaging, which said two-and-a-half minutes - still it was hot so I think I was fine.  I began with the chicken risotto - it smelled very good as it came out of the microwave.  You're supposed to let it stand for a couple of minutes, but I didn't read that until after, too - but it did stand for a minute.  I found it very tasty and excellent and ate it all up - 550 calories.

I do love the film of The Red Shoes (although not as much as Black Narcissus) - I saw the Broadway musical flop which was terrible.  I'm looking forward to this Matthew Bourne thing.

Have been listening to Nielsen concertos - flute, violin, and clarinet - all very good but not as good as the symphonies.  Now I'm listening to something I got last night at Amoeba - Alexander Tcherepnin - very good music all around and I may have to investigate some other works.

I had to go out and do some banking.  I saw Val on my way back in.  Someone in the building has complained again to the city agency about the elevator and the city has slapped a huge fine on the rental agent.

On my way from the bank, I stopped into Barnes & Noble, my old employer of nearly 20 years ago.  I had three $25 gift certificate and I wanted to see how much was on them.  I have $51.02, so I'm quite happy about that.  Perhaps I will see what's over there on the Criterion sale.

Kay rehearsal was great - she was completely present and filled with joy and what a difference that makes.  It's a really good act and today it really came alive.  Now to pick up some packages.

Bruce, I hope you like Freshly.

I like to eat out as much as anyone, but I find it a chore to HAVE to eat out. I like to have the option of dining out or dining in. I fix very simple meals at home, which is all I really want these days.

I'll have more of an opinion about Freshly after tonight's meal, but based on the one I've had, I'm happy to do this three days a week - you can't not lose weight on under 1100 calories.

Picked up a couple of packages and now listening to more Martinu - another performance of the fourth symphony conducted by Walter Weller, who can do no wrong.  This CD also has lots of other pieces that I've never heard and don't have.   Debating whether to tackle the top shelf of the CD closet - perhaps while it's light out.

Falsettos helped me through the day when the first close friend I knew died from AIDS. I wanted to go the funeral but was told I couldn't go. His parents refused to acknowledge that he died from AIDS but called it something else. His partner was my best friend and I was there on the night that they met. We went to Boston for the weekend. There was an instant attraction and he drove back with us that night to Montreal. When he was very ill I want to go to Boston and be there for them, but I was told no. When I got the phone call and was told that he passed I played on a loop the song "What Would I Do If I Had Not Met You". It helped me cope with a situation that I did not understand at the time what was happening because I was never told it was AIDS. (I was told many years later that it was AIDS) I remember the last time I saw him he gifted me with his Playbill collection. I would give them back if he would have survived.

Thanks for sharing, Michael.
