The West Side Story was nicely staged and competently performed by most of the cast, but without passion somehow.  It never caught fire. except twice -- the "Tonight" Quintet was quite good, and "Gee Officer Krupke" was suddenly just brilliant and funny and everything it should be.  Place was filled to capacity, and I think every idiot in the audience could subliminally detect a difference between those two moments and the rest.  Strange performance.

Today I have a 2pm-6pm rehearsal, and I have to be packed and ready to go on my impromptu trip when I hit the sack at what absolutely must be a decent hour tonight.  Oy.

BK:  You may have mentioned this and I may even have asked it, but did you ever listen to Rachmaninoff playing all the concertos himself with Ormandy and Stokowski conducting?

(I used to have that one here, who the HELL knows where it went...)

Sunday morning greetings!  Quiet morning for me while Fr. Richard conducts the service in Dayton.  This evening we'll probably go to Mariemont to hear Rick play the carillon again, because he's scheduled 3 numbers I want to hear:

Mouret's Rondeau (aka Theme from Masterpiece Theatre), which was our wedding processional
A Broadway Montage of "Give My Regards to Broadway" and "I Love Paris"
Scott Joplin's "Solace," which we used in my Dad's memorial service

We'll try to celebrate National Ice Cream Day with a stop at Graeter's...

Thanks DR ELMORE and DR FJL and all other Dear Readers....we are moving along.

Last night we went to see THE FOREIGNER....it's a really funny play, and everyone did a great job.  I was glad to be back at the theatre and happy to see everyone there!

I'm glad you had a nice evening at the theater.

DR elmore it is hard for me to imagine you as a delivery truck driver 😉
I can understand your aunt being disappointed you were not pursuing a career she felt you should be doing.  I can not understand her change in how she loved you, that shouldn't have changed.

TOD from yesterday:
I've looked at both kinds of pre-prepared meals. There's a place near us called Dream Dinners that I was intrigued by, but it was always closed. I finally called them and it turns out it's by appointment-only. You go there and pick out all your meals from the ingredients they have, they put it all together for you and then I think you pick it up later. It still seemed like a lot of trouble. And with all of these types of services, like Blue Apron, etc., the meals seemed like they were still about $15.00 each, which is no cheaper than eating out.

I'm ushering for the youth symphony today. Their program is supposed to be video game related. I may not stay for the end.

And the word of the day is: YAWP!

Not too many people know this but it was the original lyrics to the Beatle song. It didn't sound right so they changed it. :-)

Yawp! I need somebody
Yawp! Not just anybody
Yawp! You know I need someone
Yawp!

ChasSmith - I don't have those and I should have those - I got a CD with Rachmaninov conducting his third symphony and that's great.

I woke up to no Internet - the router was green, the modem was lit correctly, so that means at some point during the night it must have gone down or the router must have lost it's connection to the modem.  I unplugged the router to reset and kicked the power strip where everything else is plugged right out of the wall.  So, then everything had to be reset - but it's all working fine now.

Well, this is it.  It's time to get ready for the last performance of Hairspray!  I'm sure we'll have a great audience and put on a great show!

Be back later!

I had a busy day yesterday. I've been looking for someone to help with the cleaning for over a year now. No one's interested, even though the wages I offered were at the high end of the scale. It's a chorus of "NO"s:

No! We don't do that!
No! We don't do this, either!
No! No! No!

And Amazon will now put you in touch with a cleaning service in your area--for $42.50/hour!!

I say NO to that!

The other day I saw a friendly 20-something fellow who works at a restaurant I frequent and asked him if he'd be willing to help me. His response was an immediate YES! He's not working a lot of hours right now and had the time.

He came by yesterday. I was busy all day tossing and organizing, then he--his name is Pablo--came by after his restaurant shift and helped with the things I can't do. He wiped down the bathroom walls, which have an unusual propensity for collecting dust and lint. He cleaned the shower ceiling tile and the areas I can't reach. He pulled the sofa away from the wall and cleaned behind it. It wasn't difficult for him at all and he was done in no time.

What a difference in attitude! Unfortunately, he lives in Palm Springs now and is only visiting Santa Monica for this month. But these tasks won't need to be done again for a while and Ill ask him to let me know when he'll be here again.

I am pleased to have these tasks behind me. Mundane though they may be, they were bugging me. I have a lot more stuff to go through and toss or organize, but only I can do that and I'll just do it as I can.

As for the meal services, the ones where you cook at home don't appeal to me at all. I've looked into some of the others, but couldn't find one that served food I'd want at decent prices. Some require you to buy a LOT of meals!

I frequently buy prepared foods from my favorite food store. They have an excellent hot food bar, plus very good sandwiches and salad bar. And the prices are far less than Whole Foods Market. I just wish they were closer.

Freshly sounds like a good solution for BK--and not just for weight loss. Jane's point about freezing the meals is a good one. I bet many of them would freeze well.

I find that when I cut back on sugar I lose my desire for it. I eat very little sugar now, but I do try to eat some fresh fruit every day.
