And Jane, now that you live in Washington, your library might allow you to access Timberland's collection!

Thanks for the suggestion.  I am still able to use the Ashland library, also with two accounts.  I am very impressed with the Vancouver collection.  Maybe next time I can't find a book at either library I will ask you if Timberland has it, if so then I would peruse a card there :)

Watching Sweet Adeline. The sound is great, the music sublime, the print could be better.

Thanks, DR Vixmom and others.  It's NOT easy - in fact, it's the most difficult thing I've ever been through...

But this evening I cooked us a nice dinner, then colored with some fun new pencils and listened to The Unsinkable Molly Brown on my iPod.  Just finishing a glass of wine and feeling quite mellow.

Then we walked past the theatre and as we got to the end of the line I said it's too hot for a bus tour let's watch the show instead

DR Vixmom, did I miss what show you saw?

TOD - we've been in this house for 29 years, so there's quite an accumulation.  But we did learn 3 years ago, when readying the upstairs for Rob and Mary Linda, that we can purge when we have to.  In fact, just this week, I pitched most of my grant writing stuff because I needed the shelf space for art stuff.

I am a hoarder, however, moving forces me to let go.  This last move more so than ever going from a house with loads of storage room to our condo.

I still have stuff Keith would like to see gone, such as my rock collection,  I refuse to let go.

Listening to Tcherepnin - a ballet - wonderful music - this guy is the bomb, as the kids are saying again.

Reading readers' comments on Mahler symphonies - these pedants act as if theirs is the only opinion, that they have the only knowledge - it is to laugh.  So pompous.  I swear, if we could do a little blind test - none of them can listen to Mahler for a year, then we get them in a room and play various versions of symphonies and see which they choose as best.  My guess is they'd choose the ones they say they hate.  I love the ones that say, "But Mahler has very definite markings in the score" - so you know they're listening with their eyes rather than their ears - not a good idea.  And hey, playwrights put all sorts of character and stage directions in plays and musicals - any smart director will be creative and not necessarily be slavish - that's what art is.  Popular songs have tempo markings galore, but so what?  I've done tons of arrangements and switch things up all the time.  But boy, if Mahler wrote "not too fast" and someone goes a little faster than "not too fast" the world ends.

I watched the DVD of THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER this evening.  I enjoyed the, almost, word-for-word of the play production.  I liked Monty okay, but I honestly think I was better.

I know we cut the penguins and the octopus, but the rest of it was all there, just as we rehearsed it.

Perhaps that was what Jane disliked about his performance.
