DR Ginny and I had hoped to visit DR JRand67 but time and logistics were against us today, so we're hoping to visit on my next trip.  So, we went to Miami U, spent some time with the Special Collections Dept., had a nosh at a nice Chinese place, The Big Bistro, and I am back with Randy and Jo.  I've turned over my house keys, and I am about to begin packing.  Right after dinner.

It would be so great if this could happen when I'm there, too.

Yes indeedy!

My friend Hillary is in Key Largo right now preparing for evacuation. A few HHW vibes for her would be appreciated.

Wow, kind of like the movie.

Best of vibes for Hillary and everyone in the path of Irma.

Back from the gynecologist.

Well, let me clarify that, if I may.  Back from Kristi's gynecologist, where, thirteen days following the big surgery, she's been given the all clear on everything, including taking hot baths, rolling over in bed, driving, returning to work, anything she feels like doing as long as she's careful lifting small weights for a while longer.  Doc said it's the fastest recovery she's ever seen.  They just have to keep a close eye on those fibroids, and they'll laser the others as required.  This one became a monster and, left unchecked, would probably have eaten Manhattan next.

Excellent.  I have never been told I made a fast recovery.  If I am lucky I am on schedule.

Speaking of traveling, when do vixmom's next excellent adventures begin?  Or have they already begun?

Do you mean her trip to Florida?  I hope not.

AAACK!  I've done about 90 minutes of executor work and I'm ready to get ready to go play with DR Elmore.

I am sure DR elmore will lift your spirits.

I had to take a break from watching the news on the fire that is dropping ash on us.  " The Eagle Creek Fire raging in the Columbia River Gorge exploded Monday night, forcing hundreds out of their homes, closing down a major portion of Interstate 84, and threatening an Oregon treasure: Multnomah Falls."

The Bridge of the Gods is closed.  This is the beautiful area we drove through on Saturday and have been taking our company to see.

Fire stoppage vibes.

Thank you.

When I went out to my car this morning, I noticed ash all over the place...it was very light, but very noticeable. :-\

From our fire or a different one?

Bruce has chastised me for being a derelict commenter on this blog :)
Yes, it's true.  Though I do read his blogs :)

We attended both Kritzerland 80th as well as The Film Thing.   Kritzerland was wonderful, especially this show as we were treated to songs most of us never hear.  I always enjoy Bruce's notes and the back stories to the songs.
Jason Graae is a very funny fellow and it was a treat to see him perform again.

The Film Thing was also good fun, made moreso by Bruce's comedic flair.  I especially enjoyed his deliberately butchering the Morricone song title "Per le antiche scale".    PAIR LAY ANTEEESH  SCAYLE.   Dio mio!

Robert Yacko never disappoints, his powerful voice was a nice counterpoint to Maegan McConnell's ethereal soprano.   Having seen her perform last year for the evening of Star Trek music, I have dubbed her the Queen of "Wordless Songs".   This lovely twosome was backed by an outstanding cellist, flutist, trumpet player and pianist.    A balmy L.A. evening, enhanced by these talents. :)

It is nice to see you posting.  Thank you for your lovely review.

The Big Bistro is a Chinese place?

Yes.

WILD Bistro.

Whatever you call it, it hit the spot and the company couldn't have been better!

Of course that's all that matters.

Fire now ‘less active’ around Crystal Mountain but thick smoke and flames remain.

Broken leg and disease vibes for your Hillary.  Where has she evacuated to?

I think she'd go back to her home in Sarasota. Even if that's not the safest place for her.

I just finished watching the extras on La Bete Humaine, and this is the reason I love Criterion. The extras were incredible. There was a short 7-minute clip from some long-forgotten French TV show, made in the 1950s, that had Jean Renoir once again directing Simone Simon in the scene leading up to her death. The give and take between director and actress was wonderful.

There was another program from French TV on adapting Zola for film. They used La Bete as the start of their discussion but it went on to include talk of Fritz Lang's version of the same tale, Human Desire, with Glenn Ford in the lead role. I saw the film in the last couple of years and forgot all about it, until this mention.
