Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Hef, and it is now time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently rereading their copies of Playcows.

Well, I hate to do it (no, I really do), but I need to go to sleep now.  I want to get to work early, so that I can leave early because I'm going to a friend's house for dinner.  The daughter of another friend is also going to be at the dinner and I haven't seen either of them in several years, so it'll be fun visiting and chatting and ketchuping on things!

I started reading Playboy in the late Sixties.  Having grown up thinking the magazine was practically pornographic, I was shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, by the high quality of the magazine.  I came to admire Mr. Hefner for all he did, both financially and otherwise, for causes in this country.  He was one of the first to support the gay rights movement.

Just found another Harvey Schmidt doodle thing - this one absolutely incredible - first a long note from him about the doodling, then on a separate page four post-its with his doodles of a woman's foot with high heels - it's fantastic.  May up the price on that one.  And also found, and have no idea why or when I would have gotten it, a first day cover celebrating ASCAP's fiftieth anniversary, stamped October 15, 1964 and signed in pen by Leonard Bernstein.  I think I'll put that up, too - not sure what to charge - I found one other on a website priced at 1,100.  I'll do less, just don't know how much less.

This is not a good day.  I discovered this morning that I ordered from Staples the wrong storage boxes yesterday so a lot of thing I planned on boxing up for removal must be postponed until the correct cartons arrive.  This, alas, cannot be accomplished until one of the following things occurs:
1.  the Loesser work actually begins
2. I win the lottery
3.  I borrow some money from friends to tide me over4 until the Loesser contract comes through.

I counted my chickens early: I thought as soon as I was told the job was approved that we'd be signing an agreement and getting a first payment several weeks ago.

I will finish up what work I can today.  Hopefully, I'll clean out the space, vacuum, and then move the filing cabinet and what I'm keeping into it.

As a young kid in the 60's & 70's a friend's father used to have them and we'd look through them.

But I like to read the interviews and there were some short stories that were also very good. I liked the joke page and there was a comic strip called Little Annie Fanny

The majority of his film work after that was Playboy related but he also produced several documentaries

Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché (1st female film director in 1896)
The Girls in the Band (2011) (Woman in Jazz Bands from the 1930's till now)
Why Be Good? Sexuality & Censorship in Early Cinema (2007)
The Woman with the Hungry Eyes (2006) (Theda Bara)
Rita (2003) (Rita Hayworth)
Olive Thomas: Everybody's Sweetheart (2003)
Captured on Film: The True Story of Marion Davies
Lon Chaney: A Thousand Faces
Without Lying Down: Frances Marion and the Power of Women in Hollywood
Clara Bow: Discovering the It Girl (1999)
Louise Brooks: Looking for Lulu (1998)
Mary Pickford: A Life on Film (1997)

With the exception of Lon Chaney all were about strong women.
