I just finished watching The Young Visiters or Mr Salteena's Plan, which I really enjoyed for its clever and successful mix of sophistication and naïveté. The BBC adaptation adroitly juggles 9 year-old Daisy Ashford's Victorian novel of romance and social status along with her spelling errors (Blackfriers and the Prince of Whales are quite prominently on display) and a look at the adult world through a child's eyes. It has wonderful humor, several surreal moments, vivid color, and a terrific, very game cast.
I laughed at much of it and wept at the end. We often don't end up with the one we wanted, as Mr Salteena learns.
