I was informed yesterday that our water would be turned off for several hours today. I adjusted my day's agenda accordingly, but was surprised when the plumber showed up. I knew he had some other work to do on the building, but I didn't know he would be doing work here, too. He fixed the toilet--during the inspection he said he couldn't find anything wrong, but it runs on all the time--and replaced the tub knobs. They've been on their last legs for four or five years; I don't know why they didn't replace them sooner. I'm glad to see them making repairs, AND notifying us in advance that the water will be turned off. (One day the plumber was working at the apartment next door and turned off the water. I was in the midst of washing my hair.)
