I got up around 2:30 to use the bathroom, got back to bed, and had an anxiety attack about the new GOP tax scam bill, which essentially wipes out every one of my possible deductions  .

Yikes.

But I didn't see anything about it wiping out any business deductions on Schedule C. So that's some good news, or did I miss something by reading it too fast?

Actress Rachel Collins posted this on FB:
Well the new tax bill looks like it's going through. My personal taxes are about to quadruple. I will not be able to deduct ANY of my agent commissions or dues, advertising, headshots, tickets, audition music or clothes. I don't know what to do. Our voices were not heard. We have been silenced and punished by millionaires and billionaires. I think a lot of performers are going to have to leave New York because of this. This is a depressing day.

DR FJL, will this not be the case?

Wow, I didn't realize it went that far. I've been reading about how those of us in blue states will be hit and those of us who itemize. It looks like quite a few of us in the middle class will be paying more, not less. People were promised a tax cut, not a tax hike. I suspect there will be some real anger over this and I also suspect the Law of Unintended Consequences may come into play.

TOD:
KINKY BOOTS, which I LOVE--the story and the movie--was based on real-life events. How much is real and how much fiction or embellishment is the question.

I did the laundry and must now do some cleaning. It won't be a lot. Just not in the mood today.

I am glad that I checked in with the AARP / The Hartford about my auto insurance.  I will save almost $380.00 by not switching to The Hartford

I have kind of taken a break from the book to recharge my creative batteries.

Larry -

Aren't you mainly on a schedule C ("self-employment income") rathe rthan wages on a W-2?

I've been combing the information, and I can;t see where there are any new restrictions on a schedule C.  If you hear anything I'm missing, PLEASE let me know.  (although the almost-always-abused home office deduction, for part of someone's personal rent for example, looks like it's been restricted)

I think a lot of people who earns wages as employees may be deducting a lot less, but for so many, it's that they will have less reason to itemize on schedule A.

For my full seminar on deductions - (just kidding!)

Yep, and unless our tax authority DR FJL says she's incorrect, it means a lot of performing arts folk are completely fucked.

I did watch STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS this afternoon, and I was pleased and startled to find that I liked it a lot.....

Then I went to IMDB and read some of the user reviews for THE LAST JEDI.....some SW folks REALLY didn't like it.....

Back from doing the recording fixes.  An amazing three hours (took ninety minutes longer than I thought it would, some of that attributed to just getting set up and ready.  I replaced the one line of dialogue that was screwy and that we needed (that actor went first), and then I rerecorded our Asian fellow's entire solo for Like A Man - and finally got him to have the energy he lacked at that particular performance and it's much better now.  And having a superb flute and violin was a jaw-dropper - I literally had no idea just how good Lanny's orchestrations are until today - this will make a glorious CD release.

Good afternoon. I just dropped Wae-Ling and Sandra off at the new Star Wars movie. After I pick them up, it will be time for the party tonight.

I am looking forward to seeing the movie once we return home and I recover from jet lag.

Watched one DGA screener - very good film called Lady Bird - they're trying very hard to make it this years's "it" movie like last years's La La Land - not sure if they'll succeed but it's lovely and has really terrific performances, two of them Oscar-worthy - Saorise Ronan and Laurie Metcalf.

It's literally the director/writer's life on screen, and it just frosts me that I know that Benjamin Kritzer could get exactly this kind of reaction if anyone actually had the guts to make it.  There's certainly as much plot, and it's no softer than Lady Bird.

I am home from the reading, which was essentially three one-acts based on Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, and a young man's quest.  The first and third were the strongest, but I do not think it was ready for public viewing yet.   There were some very funny moments, but I think the script needs a lot of tightening.

I came in tonight to find usual signs of catplay while the mouse is away: all the throw rugs askew, DVDs on the floor, pillows on the bed unkempt.  What was strange is seeing the toilet seat 3/4 off the toilet.  Some kitty's got some 'splainin' to do!
