TOD:
When I was thirteen, I was given a six-week old Siamese kitten.  I loved that cat.

Keith has given me a few rather nice dolls we shouldn't really have spent the money on.They are very special to me.  The first time I was overwhelmed and cried.  Perfect response 😊

Then there is the gift that arrived two days before Christmas, our first bundle of joy.

We are approaching Cape Town.  We won't tour the city tonight, opting instead for an early dinner and bed.

We are passing something that looks a bit like a ship.  Keith looked it up and it is a stadium built in 2010 for the Worl Succer championships.

TOD:  Hard to say, lots of fun gifts over the years - but the most unique Christmas gift we've gotten was getting a seafood dinner shipped to us, courtesy of some relatives in California.

T.O.D. (2)

Actually, my most vivid memory of Christmas was when I discovered my father was Santa Claus.

I was about 6-7.  Dad always went to work on Christmas Day, then awhile later, Santa showed up at our front door.

On this particular Christmas, I was standing next to Santa and I noticed that, under his red suit, he was wearing my father's shirt.

 :o :o :o

It took me awhile to put it together, but that's when I realized that Santa did not exist.

 :( :( :(

I've always wondered: If that hadn't have happened, would I still believe in Santa Claus?

 ??? ??? ???

TOD:

I truly don't know what my most memorable Christmas present would be, even though I've certainly had some lovely ones.  I'll have to browse through the memories and see what pops up.

I was fairly young when I sat on the stairs watching my parents put Santa's gifts under the tree.  I snuck back to bed and never told anyone what I had seen afraid "Santa" would not return.

I continued to believe in Santa for many years after that as it was more fun to believe.

Happy Winter Solstice, Y’all.

Time to sing Rodgers and Hart’s lovely The Shortest Day of the Year.

My sister and I figured out what was up with Santa and the Easter Bunny one Easter morning -- around age 7 for me, so age 5 for her.  The two of us just suddenly put our heads together to think about how a frickin' bunny could be doing this stuff he was purported to be doing.  A moment later it was like the proverbial lightbulb went on over our heads.  We went to our parents and said we think we just figured out something ... and that was that.

It was as un-traumatic a revelation as you could ask for, and there were never any regrets.  I'm amazed now to think she was only five at the time, because in recent years I've heard of some people's kids "believing" up to age ten and beyond, and I don't see how that can be good for anyone, the kid or the parents.  I might be wrong, but I've always thought the possibility of a child having their face rubbed in it out in the mean world somewhere is kind of a sad risk to take.

When I was 3, I asked Santa for an umbrella so I could fly away like Mary Poppins. I don’t remember if I got it, but I couldn’t fly away, so I doubted Santa and, we’ll, we weren’t a Santa household anyway.
