Hello Everyone, Hello BK:
A note from me on the Variety show, if you will indulge. I agree with everything Bruce posted. The show was whiny, and these kids not given real music direction, both in the songs they chose and their performances. Alexa was the anomaly, singing the only Broadway song in a program of 24 numbers!
As to the Steve Nicks trio song, I advised my daughter that "On the Edge of Seventeen" would not be a great choice. It is a 5 minute, largely repetitive song that is driven by a rock guitar and drummer, which the trio did not have due to the group "leader" (not my daughter) being unable to bring that together when the original musicians dropped out.
At a rehearsal over Xmas, which Alexa finally made happen as the "leader" did not, I suggested that, given they lacked the two essential musicians, perhaps the girls could do Bruce's song, "Three Friends", instead. Alexa performed at Kritzerland and is a quite beautiful song about friendship and teenage girls. The group "leader" would have none of it; she had "rehearsed the (Stevie Nicks) song for months" (

), despite the fact that she did not have sheet music for it !??!!! I got the girls the sheet music.
The song today had piano and drums along with the trio, and it went fine. I would have preferred a Broadway song, or even something "old" like the Andrew sisters

It's frustrating to see kids work hard but come up short because they don't have the right guidance, nor exposure to really good music. I might have to beg Bruce to lead a master class
Have a great weekend, everyone. Thanks for allowing my rant.
Leslie
