I don't believe I have ever been in the Shubert Theater.

I don't believe I have ever been in the Shubert Theater.

My first show at the Shubert was Promises, Promises, August 1969.

I saw A CHORUS LINE there in 1985.....it was a pretty tired show by then.....but still a lot of fun to see!

Saturday night on Broadway....and 8 principles were out....of a show about wanting to dance....on Broadway.....  But the people who did go on were very good.....

from Jane
Quote
Tom, I never realized you pronounce your name with lund instead of land.  Is that your own preference or how your father pronounced it?

I don't know that I ever remember hearing my father say his last name.  i suppose it is my own preference.  There is no one else left in the family that has the name, so I guess I can say it any way that I want.

You certainly can.

Is your name Norwegian?

BIRKELAND     Norwegian
Derived from Old Norse birki "birch" and land "farm, land". Birkeland is the name of a village and parish in western Norway. The parish got it's name from an old farm. The parish church was built on the same spot where the farm once was.

Or Polish?

And now, I need to get to sleep.  I have to get up early to get my teeth cleaned.

Have a good day, all!

Well...it turns out that today was NOT my dental appointment!  It actually was my EYE appointment! :o I went to my dentist all they way out in Lacey, and they said that my appointment wasn't until Tuesday.  It wasn't until that moment that I realized that I totally goobered up!!  I went out to my car and called my eye doctor, and they asked if I could get there in 20 minutes (it was 10:20 by this time. My appointment was supposed to be at 10:15).  I said that I could and they said that they'd make it work.  I RUSHED over to the west side of Olympia and got there in about 15 minutes.  It turns out that another patient got there early and they gave him my time, and I got to take his time (and now I was early for that), so it all turned out well!  And the best part is that my prescription didn't change from last year!  I don't need new lenses!  WHEW!!

I plan to spend my day doing as little as possible.  Since the weekend, I've had bad ains in my left side between my shoulder and hip.  I thought I might have pulled a muscle toting 40 lbs of kitty litter, but now I'm wondering if I could have a kidney infection.  So, I'll work on How To Succeed . . . for a bit, mail my apartment lease renewal for the next two years, continue my dealings with my HMO over a lost payment, and lie about with the kitties.

Hopefully the stupid orphans who have been marking their gymnastic tricks since we started rehearsal will actually DO THEM tonight....they run from one side of the stage to the other and do a little hop....TA DA!

As one smart aleck said when (I think) he heard a criticism of the orphans in the non-Equity OLIVER:  I would bring the behavior of the orphans up with their parents, but well, you know,,,

That's funny, Fred!

Stretching the TOD, but on the subject of "unsung actors"  :)  - with Diana Rigg getting a Tony nomination in a Musical without singing or dancing at all.  And still stuck on the joys of "Show Me"

I heard a rumor (not really) they may add a number for Diana Ms. Rigg to sing after the curtain call for while the Tony voters are there, if Alan Jay Lerner OKs it.

Tune of “Show Me" again

Notes, notes, notes, yes they hit those notes
Yes, I know dear Renée
Has a perfect high A.
This isn’t the Met, it’s Broad-way!

No solo turn, nor a duet
Still I should get - Tony!

Haven’t you heard all the acclaim
Just call my name - Tony!

Here I am with notices that worship and adore
I may not sing, but how I score.
Holding it against me that the mother has no song
That’s sexist, ageist and wrong!

Don’t give me cash, don’t give me bling
Give me one thing – Tony! Tony!
I’m not too proud, I’ll take a tie.
Let's Rigg the voting somehow.
Tony now!

Oh my.  After all that at least you didn't need to spend time getting new glasses or measuring for a new prescription.

Today I started my 2017 tax prep. All that dental work over the winter put me behind in EVERYTHING. I always break my tax work down into pieces and just do one piece at a time. I was pleased to get the first piece done. Hopefully, there won't be anything this time that requires an archeological dig through years and years of old files. That can be sooo annoying!

Yes, but we will also be checking to see that all is well with the work that was done. Then we'll know if I need a follow-up treatment plan. BUT, no drilling next week. And there's always that little bakery next door with the mini pies.

Oh dear, what a wacko day so far.  I didn't fall asleep until four due to an active brain.  The phone rang at around nine-thirty, then I went back to bed and didn't get up till about eleven-thirty.
