I spoke to our DR ChasSmith just now.  I'm sure my paraphrasing will hve errors, but here's what I've understood things to be.  A number of trees are felled across the driveway, so they need someone to clear the drive so they have access to the main road.  When that occurs, he can at least get to a place with wifi and use his laptop.

The damage to the house is to a corner of the attic roof, which needs to be covered because there's more rain predicted today and they can suffer water damage.  The power is out and the house is running on a generator, which may be good for only a couple of more days and there's no knowledge when the power will be restored.

DR Vixmom, I was worried about your trip home last night, so I'm very pleased that you are okay.

This morning's patrol took us down to the first floor.  Annabelle stopped at several doors to pay calls but no one was home.  I thought it would be fun to take her to the foyer and let her look out on the street from the ground level.  When we got there, she panicked, climbed up on my shoulder and kept mewing in a rather frightened "help me" sort of tone.  I hope she didn't think I was going to open the door and toss her out.

So then, while she was on my shoulder and calling for help, a mother with two children aged 3-5, I'd guess, walked by and saw us.  They stopped and watched us for a moment,  I was friendly, Annabelle was not, but I wasn't going to open the outside door yp the street because that might have scared Annabelle to death.

Then we walked back into the building and she ran to her boyfriend Val's apartment.  He was out so I picked her up and brought her back upstairs.  She's chilling out in the cat tree and Thatch is begging for food.

Congrats to DR LAURA on her wonderful news!

Vibes for DR CHAS SMITH!

We had rain last night, so I don't have to water the flowers I planted....

Still waiting for the tree man to come and take down our elm tree and trim our silver maple and crab apple trees....

I love your kitties DR ELMORE!

Thanks!  I find them a constant source of amusement and affection.  Tony Walton told me that he and Julie Andrews were walking through Central Park one day and they ran into Ethel Merman and her grandchildren, and Ethel was saying to them, So what the f**k do you want to do?

I feel like asking Annablle that at least once a day.

DR elmore, your theory regarding a calm Thatch during the storm is a good one.  It may also explain why he isn't keen on exploring.

If he were still living on a garage roof in the Bronx in early October, he would have survived several hurricane-like storms.  I know that not all of his family survived to be rescued.

It's less than three hours and I think we're getting "Scenes from Little Women"; Mark Adamo;s dreadful opera takes a similar approach.

I felt the scene in the kitchen between Beth and Marmee was poorly done.  It was important too as it expressed, or at least I thought that was what it was attempting, the heart of Beth's personality and the person she is.  I should have been lost in the story not thinking "What?".  Later I had to explain it to Keith as he had the same issue.

Today....I received three emails/Facebook messages.  Each one was from a mom who had entrusted her husband/orphan's father to bring me a check for her T-shirt and a copy of said orphan's bio.

I was happy to report that all THREE husbands completed their missions at 100%, and that they could now be entrusted with more complicated tasks!

I feel like asking Annablle that at least once a day.

Another favorite Merman swearing story, about the swear jar and Loretta Young, from the link below:

Merman was notorious for her swearing. In the video documentary, Sondheim on Sondheim, Composer and lyricist, Stephen Sondheim recounts the time Merman was rehearsing for a guest appearance on The Loretta Young Show. Warned of Young’s no-swearing policy on set, Merman would have to pay $1.00 into a curse box each time she swore. As she was getting into an ill-fitting gown, Merman let out, “Oh shit, this damn thing’s too tight.” Young swiftly thrust her curse box at her and said, “Come on Ethel, put a dollar in. You know my rules.” Merman reportedly replied, “Ah, honey, how much will it cost me to tell you to go f--- yourself?!”

That and more Merman info here:
